Don't laugh. As im maturing (33 last friday) i'm starting to notice some of the finer details in things. ESPECIALLY guitars, and guitar players. like i never like SRV or Hendrix that much, i thought they were brilliant guitars players but never really listened properly.

Anyway. my 2003 Standard Strat is just that, a boring 2003 cream shiny plastic looking strat. but my MiM 1997 Fender Strat i only just noticed has the most beautiful wood grain i've ever seen in it, i never took any notice of it, until recently it was lying on my bed directly under the light and it's just lovely.

now my phone is terrible, but at the bottom behind the bridge it's a lovely curved grain, and then all up the left hand side and on some of the neck it's nearly a birdseye maple look!
show me the grains you have on your guitars if you can? im interested to see the different grains on strats. especially anyone with alder or swampash bodies

I need to buy a decent camera just so I can get a good photo of this guitar. Mighty Mite partscaster with a really beautifully figured maple drop top ...

Nowhere near as expensive as you might think, Mighty Mite bodies and necks aren't really high-end expensive. The rest of the body is two-part swamp ash and extremely light, turned into quite a nice guitar for not a lot of money. The Fender Noiseless pickups were the most expensive part, I paid silly money to have them imported when they first came out.

I should mention the neck is birdseye maple too.

And I just noticed, the bright lines on the first pic are the reflection of the striplight.

This is a fine guitar to play in front of the mirror.

Cool Guitar. Looks like a sweet neck. How does it play? Get the impression it's smooth a butter ;)

It's a nice guitar to play, the neck's really stable and it's set up really well right now with the Wilkinson bridge. I skimped on the bridge when I first built the guitar and stuck an old crappy one on there with a zinc block, sounded terrible so the Wilkinson transformed the sound of the guitar. It's also weird having the Roland hex pickup on this guitar, where you might expect it to sound really "traditional" it can actually make unbelievably strange noises.

Not laughing... over 30, my generation wouldn't have trusted you farther than they could've thrown you. But now, at the age of 71, aged and vintaged compared to you, they've all become their fathers, lost the fire in their bellies, as well as the fire down below. Except for me....I still don't trust you. After all, once past thirty, what the hell do you know :?: :!: I should know, shouldn't I :?:

No wait! It's me being stupid, I blocked all the smilies on the site (and every other forum I use) so I just saw your post as this ...

It makes sense with the smilies enabled :)
