Edibe, this seems to be a legit USA strat to me, not a copy, nor a clone.

hey dude, you do indeed have a genuine 1991 standard strat there. it's not chinese/mexican/japanese etc. i've played and opened up a few stratocaster counterfeit's from china and they don't have anything close to what you're seing there.

Thank you very much, tobougg and Nikola Tesla!

Are there conflicting opinions? Regards!

if you have a magnifying glass in your house, look through it at the fender logo and the stratocaster letters written on the headstock. if it's solid black colour all over it's real! if there's lots of black dot's, it's generally a fake i've noticed!

what do you mean by conflicting options?

The serial # checks out as a 1991 and while it does look correct, I'm still not sure.

My suspicion rises from the fact that it almost looks too clean for a 22-23 year old guitar. It looks hardly or never played - no dings or marks, no fret wear, chrome looks too shiny (it dulls with time), plastic parts not 'yellowed', not a scratch on the pickguard, etc. It's almost impossible to keep a guitar that pristine for more than 2 decades.

It may well be genuine and if I had to bet, I'd say that it is. But... I still have a nagging suspicion.

Where did you buy it? Reputable store? Online? Private Party?

If it is genuine, you got a very nice example.

cheers!

I have to disagree, I've seen several 20 - 25 year old guitars that looked nearly new.

Yeah mine looked exactly like that only it was gun metal blue.
My body started splitting right at the middle at the four bolt.
So I got a new body and ended up selling the neck to a buddy.
Those are actually one of my favorite Strat time periods on the modern side.

Not sure we're disagreeing at all. :D

I've seen many pristine guitars myself, even some 50's Telecasters which look showroom new, but it's less common to see them.

There are some Vintage sellers who specialize in such pristine examples such as Mark Umanov and Rivington Guitars in NYC, or Willies American Guitarsin MSP.

But from just the photos, and without actually seeing the guitar, I reserve judgement. Though as I said, it probably is the real deal.

cheers!

I don't see anything at all to indicate that this isn't a legit 1991 Strat. It is just super clean; it was probably just played a few times by someone then put away for 21-22 years. It is not unreasonable that the chrome hardware stayed pretty pristine if it has been kept in a fairly controlled environment (not too humid, even temperature, etc.) most of its life - particularly those Schaller tuners and that bridge plate. The Schaller straplock buttons (at least the lower one) does appear to have some age on it - but that could just be the photo.

Its a super beautiful example wouldn't you say? I want it bad.
That's the exact model I am looking for 3 tone in a 90 or 91 model.
I found one so fare its a little rough but I like it.
The universal route sounds great at high volume.
I have a Lonestar pickguard I want to put on one.
