Greetings!
I own a 2013 American Deluxe Stratocaster with H-S-S pickups. I want to replace the DH-1 bridge humbucker with a Seymour Duncan Jeff Beck bridge humbucker. Is it possible to do this because of the S1 switching system?
Thank you,
Eddie

Yes it is possible but to make it easier on yourself I suggest the Fender Hot Rod if its white or the Atomic if its black.
Same pickup and is within the tone and output range of the Duncan JB.
This way you are connecting same color wires and no pickup screw hole needs drilled into the pickguard.
Do you already own the pickup?

Is this your diagram? Do you have the passing lane switch?
If so its an easy one the difference is Duncan uses different wire colors.

So instead of the Fender black and white soldered together its the Duncan red and white.
The Duncan black wire equals the Fender green wire and the Duncan green wires equals Fender's red.

donnycraven,

Thanks for responding. I have the 3 tone sunburst with rosewood neck model. It has white pickups. The models you mentioned are really that close to the JeffBeck bridge pickup?

Thanks,

Eddie

Sorry these links didn't come through on my phone.
These will be super easy to install and you will love them over the Standard DH-1 Diamondback.
I had that and it was just like a Dimarzio PAF it was an 8.3 kohm
The Hot Rod now known as the Atomic since its migration to Mexico is a great pickup.
I own 2 and an Atomic.
The new Atomic is not as nice as the Made in USA Hot Rod.

Yes its an Alnico 5 15kohm pickup its tone is close, the JB has a bit more mids.
The Fender Hot Rod humbucker can be found on eBay in aged white.
Its new old stock made in USA. I installed it in my 08 American Deluxe Strat.

donnykraven,

I just read the specs for my guitar in the Fender website and bridge pickup is an Atomic.
I am going to switch it with the Hot Rod USA pup. Why are both eBay listings F spaced?
Does that mean F for Floyd Rose equipped guitars? Just curious.

Fender Spaced man its Donny Craven lol
Everyone does the Kraven thing from Spider Man lol :)
I know there is mismatched info about the Deluxes but I don't think its the Atomic.
I believe its the DH-1 Diamondback.
Do you have an ohm meter?
Do me a favor...
Plug a cord into your guitar.
Switch it to the bridge pickup only with all those switches lol.
Then turn the volume up and touch your probes to the other end of the plugged in cord.
Touch red probe to the tip and black probe to the barrel.
With the cord plugged in to it tell me if it reads about 8.3k or between 13 - 15k

donnykraven,

I have no technical skills at all when it comes to being a guitar tech. I always bring my guitars to a well known guitar tech in NYC. No I don't own an ohm meter. I will pick one up at radio Shack after I get the cast removed from my right leg. I have been playing along to all my favorite cd's for hours a day and learning from lesson DVD's. I called Fender customer service and they confirmed that the 2013 American Deluxe Stratocaster has an Atomic bridge pickup. The guy read the specs like I did and took it one step further by calling the factory where they assemble this strat and spoke with the production line manager who told him it was an Atomic bridge pickup for the year, make, and model of the Strat.

Thanks for clearing up the "F" spacing question. I really appreciate all your help. You are very intelligent and take time out of your day to help a stranger.

I like your recommendation on buying the aged White made in USA HOT ROD bridge pickup and am going to spring on this course of action instead of buying the SD JEFF BECK pup.

Many, many thanks.

Eddie

Hi All,

I'm new to the Forum and joined today because I saw this topic and I'm hoping for some advice. I have a 2013 American Deluxe Strat HSS that has the Atomic Humbucker in the bridge. I'm wondering if there is any tonal benefit to making the change to the Made in USA Hot Rod referenced here? It's not that I'm unhappy with the Atomic. I'm just curious if the Made in USA Hot Rod is enough of an improvement over the Atomic to make the switch or do I need to look elsewhere if I'm wanting a more "pure" tone. In that case, I believe some modification would be needed to mount any other f spaced humbucker, like drilling the pickguard?

I appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

Eric

I wound up buying a custom pick guard from WD MUSIC PRODUCTS, installed the Seymour Duncan JB in re drilled pick guard and put Duncan SC HB IN neck and bridge. I lost invoice but did not put high gain SC PUP's in axe. JB AND SINGLE COIL HUMBUCKERS GAVE ME MY SOUND THAT I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING AND PLAYING. sorry for the terrible penmanship but I'using an iPad. I've been jamming to the Steve Miller Band a lot lately. It's nice to take a break from classic METAL all the time. Hope everything works out for you.

Thanks Donny & OP, this subject came along at a good time for me.

Planning my next build and a 'Bucker in the Bridge is part of that plan.

Which 'Bucker was the question.

How well it fits in a rear routed Strat remains to be seen.

Danagos,
Thanks for bring this thread back to life. I played my guitar stock for a while and while the bridge pup was very good I felt it lacked the magic of the JB pup. Specs are specs and I I have nothing but love and respect for my fellow musician's who swear by them. However once all my mods were done I was enthralled with the JB and new hum canceling single coils.
The JB model has the best harmonics, great palm muting sound, and through my high gain Mesa Boogie Mark V channel 2 and 3 sounds killer with great note definition and clarity even when high gain is cranked.
It also excels through my 63 Fender Vibroverb which is a clean amp. The amp was modded years ago and is my favorite amp. The JB handles overdrive, gain, and distortion pedals with ease.

Hope this helps - I would definitely recommend the SEYMOUR DUNCAN JB BRIDGE PICKUP TO A FRIEND. Not a fan of Fender Humbuckers.

Later,

primus
