Nope...and you are on your own for that Airline ticket to New Zealand too!

As for the cars, thanks. I sold the lighter blue Corvette just a couple a months ago. I actually kind of miss that one...kind of like an '62 Strat I had years ago.

That's kind of what it really was all about Paris, Nostalgia.
Gibson is also locked into that a lot.
Its a good thing I think because we all want one like the originals, and a bad thing because we all want innovations.

I remember my 76 having flat magnets, that was my first set of single coils.
To me all single coils should be that way, but they haven't always been that way.
I know that now, but didn't when I was 16.

I seem to recall those pickups from the '80s and '90s sounding pretty good. My first Fender Strat was a Strat Plus, so I never really thought about it much.

My '79 25th Anniversary Strat's pickups had the flat, non-staggered pole pieces as well. They sounded mighty "Stratty" to me. In fact the guitar was one of the best-sounding Strats I ever owned. If only the damn thing hadn't been so bloody heavy......!

Paris, I have to be honest, not a real fan of those Strats. I never like the feel of the two point trem, the pickups where ok, had decent quack to em, but no real oomph! The necks were good though!

Yep that's what I was going for on the Highway 1 Hot Alnico 3s I switched to Hot Alnico 5s.
I laid a 6 inch steel rule on them and pressed all rods down even with the pickup cover.
Its now a hotter version of the 70s single coils sounds very cool.

Let's not get picky- it's just a forum. Nothing to get upset over here folks :)

Hey Blertles great to be loved man :)
Did you see Pacific Rim?
What a cool movie :)

Haven't seen that yet- I have a bad habit of falling asleep 15mins into a movie.. Which annoys my missus.. But it looks like a good one. :)

I'm not a fan of staggered pole pieces.. I used to have a Strat copy with staggered pole pieces and the G string was much louder than the rest because that magnet was higher than the rest.. Very annoying.

You need to see it Blertles. Its probably the best Robot Monster movie I ever saw.
Pretty much every strat single coil is adjustable right?
I never adjusted the texas specials because those were what they wanted, but those adjust too don't they?

IF the bobbins are plastic they are usually adjustable. If the bobbins are fiber - Adjust at your own risk as you can break the wire.

If you measure string height to pole piece you will find the Low side E A D to be the same distance from the strings. The G should be about as low as the High side E, the B should be a bit lower than it is now. That will balance out about right.

If you lower the G pole by about half of what it is now you end up with what has been called the "modern" stagger. The G is still a bit louder but not so shrill sounding.

YMMV

I think I notice the volume difference less as I don't play anything to clean.
I run a boss overdrive even on the clean stuff to get an edge.
But mostly I play a pretty overdriven sound.
