Going to pick something up this month. I have 2 strats, a 2003 american standard and a 1997 MiM.
I've got approx 2050 euro to spend on something new and shiny.
I'm not sure if i should go for a Fender and a great amp maybe, or maybe pick up an LP. I never liked LP's at all, couldn't see the big deal, but i saw a couple up close when i worked with guitars and they grew on me. But im not sure if it's worth the extra money to pick one up, when i could pick up a just as beautiful tele maybe instead.

Although something weird happened. I played this INCREDIBLE classic vibe tele, andi can't get the sound and feel of it out of my head. As yo0u can probably tell, im up in the air about it.

Any suggestions?

you might as well get one of those Chinese knock off and put in real Strat pickup as you had said in another post that nothing but the pick ups matter, then you will have a custom Strat to your liking

will do, thanks. or i could just get a set of each type of strat pickups, and just swap themout whenever i want to play a particular guitar :P

Stick les paul pickups in it later and play some GNR :P

For what your looking to spend, you may be able to get two of the three on the used market. That's if your willing to compromise on new vs used.

Buy the Tele

Get a really good Valve Amp. Fender, Marshal or Vox et all.... Pick the tone of the amp you like best.

Then sit back and just play.

have you got any experience with that particular guitar? maybe the pickups etc are cheap or whatever but they just have something special about them. the whole guitar does.

Buy what pleases you. Different strokes for different folks.

You can get your self a Les paul Traditional 2013 with that price range, but you have to play a few guitars to see what you want.

I was in the market for a 2013 LP traditional, because it wasn't weight relieved, it doesn't have the laminated fretboards and and some say it has a one piece body. I settled for a 2002 Studio I bought from the US and here's why http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/gibson- ... ost5554672

Amps are so much more subjective IMHO... I have two fender Amps and an SS amp. I'd like to buy a Hughes and Kettner Tubemiester 18 though. They have a power soak so you can have it loud at 18 watts or quieter at 8 and 1 watts.

Try Thomann.de they have the website in many languages and ship Europe wide.. you can also call them and sometimes you can get a 3% discount. It really depends on the salesman, some of them can get really cranky though, but it's worth the try.

I have had strats for a long time, and single coils are still my favorite, but a fat sounding LP would sure compliment your tonal palette. Tele's are also great, but the difference with a Strat decreases when you play with an OD or high gain. PRS have their own tonal niche... but they're more pricey. Try them all out, YMMV.

Mind you that LP's are also body heavy, you would have to balance them with your hands when playing. They're not as comfy as strats playing standing or even sitting down.

Cheers

I've owned cheap Gibson knockoffs that I liked better then my actual Gibsons; I've owned 2 Les Pauls, 1 ES335, an Epi Lies Paul, countless Strats, a Muddy Waters Tele, 3 MIJ Teles, a Tele Deluxe and other guitars. I bought them for various reasons. Here is my list of reasons why:

1. All the Strats - I loved the way they sounds, played and looked (except a '77 Hard Tail. I bought that from a friend without playing it. I wanted a vintage black Strat. Sold it in about 3 years) I've sold 3 so far. The rest get played.

2. All the Teles - I loved the way they sounds, played and looked. I didn't really want to, but sold all but one. I miss most of them and wish that I still had them.

3. All the Bibsons - They looked great. I wanted to have some Gibson style guitars to round out my sound. They never got played. They never stayed in-tune. I ended up selling or trading all of them. My last one was a beautiful '04 LP Std. in Ice Tea Burst. I traded it for a '98 PRS Mc Carty 10 Top. This a wonderful guitar that never gives me a lick of trouble, plays and looks great. Worth the trade.

The bottom line are after writing all that stuff: Play what you like; don't worry about the name; if you have the money, don't trade. Play a bunch of guitars and see what guitar speaks to you. Also a very good amp is worth every penny.

Lastly: Everything about the guitar makes a difference, woods, parts, pickups (the make the biggest difference) and the player.

No I do not, I have not had, nor played that model Tele. But the advice of purchasing what pleases "YOU" is what it should be all about. Play what you feel is right, and frack others opinions.

I don't know where some of these Gibsons are coming from but in the real world Gibson Les Pauls kick major booty.
They are different than Strats yes.
But in the really real world of most music genre there are only two guitars really worth owning.
Fender Stratocasters and Gibson Les Pauls.
That's what PRS ESP LTD Schecter Jackson and Charvels wanna grow up and be is Les Pauls and Strats.
Now that being said... The deal right now for a Les Paul is the Signature T, hurry they are almost gone everywhere.
$1899 USD finest money you will ever spend. put you hands on it you will see what I mean.
But careful because its like saddling a horse for the first time.
You don't know how to ride it, it might get away from you.

i've noticed that what changes the tone for me in the most significant way out of everything, is the type of plectrum i use, and the angle of attack i use with it, thanks for the advice though.
i've played alot of guitars due to working with them, and i was always very underwhelmed by the more expensive ones. sure they look pretty, but so do some of the mid range ones.
the "best" feeling guitar i've played to date i have to say is that Squier Classic vibe 50's tele.... looks like i'll be picking it up then!. now for an amp. i played through a gorgeous amp before, i think it was a Peavey classic 50's (i think it was a delta blues). anyone know anything about them?

i thought it doesn't matter about the name on the headstock? the guitar sounds identical to a 2.5k custom shop tele, but it's a fraction of the price. and it's using Pinewood in the body so it's much lighter. the placebo effect in full swing here!
go check out some reviews of the classic vibe tele and tell me what the difference is?
