Hi there,

I have a question regarding Fender Strats.
- Why are they all made in different factorys. Why didn't they just make all strats from the US, Whats the deal with the Mexican factory. Is it basically because they were being cheapskates and knew they wouldn't have to pay the workers hardly anything to do more work, because the american workers demand health packages and bonus day. and the mexican workers are just glad to be working for probably minimum pay?
- I see Gibson do the same. The guitars that are made in the USA are all premium price, because apparently american's are better at using a sanding machine than Chinese (Epiphone). So their time is worth more then mex/chinese workers time.?

I know i sound a little sarcastic, but for companies that "pride" themselves on how beautifully made their guitars are. And when you ask them they say things like "mexican stratocasters are VERY much fender guitars, they use the same materials and almost the same build processes". So if they're so similar and just as high quality build wise, why are they cheaper, and why do they have to build them in a country that CLEARLY is a place where you can pay workers buttons to do the same job as an american?

it's a genuine question, not a rant. i honestly want to know. because as an external person, it looks like they're taking advantage of the workers in lower pay countries.

Good thing he didn't bring up the chinese!

A lot of companies do this for one reason dude...cheap labor. If not there would be no entry level guitars for the beginner, at least for the pittance they sell for compared to higher end US models.. thus squire, starcaster (not the real one), affinity, epiphone, samick..blah blah blah. welcome to the disposable society.

So if these guitars are made to the same quality level's, and are made by worker's who are just as skilled (in some cases are even more skilled), and they use identical materials. Why are they so much less to buy, and why do they not hold their value, and why do people think they sound worse than american strats?

Most people's opinion of american's is that they're fat, stupid and lazy. Yet their labour is of godly level's apparently because they can make a guitar exactly the same as a mexican or a chinese person but it sounds better and costs more?

im not being racist or anything, it's really strange that if these guitars are identical, why arn't they as sought after. what is it about USA on the headstock that makes it 60% more expensive and everyone in the world wants one, yet the mexican ones are 400 euro,

thanks

The reason is pretty simple and important. To ensure that every person, at every economic level, who wants to play the guitar has the opportunity to.

No MIM Strat? No $450 Strat.
No Squire Strat? No $150 Strat.

Fender has stated time and time again that they want to makes guitars at every price point to meet the needs of the players.

Simple economics.

So why can't they just hire more people on minimum wage and set up the shop to cater for the cheaper guitars in the US, instead of having to have an entire new multi million dollar factory in mexico with probably 10's of millions of dollars overall spent on everything in it? are they saying that if it's made on the US side of the border even if they're identical it's just better

lol.

question, do you think if i put a blindfold on you, you'd be able to identify a 400 mexican made stratocaster over a 4000 USA made stratocaster with the same pickups?

Moi?!?!? Moi?!?!? Je pense que no! But you can, for example, look at an MIA PRS Premium guitar, and one of the new PRS MIA economy models and tell the difference and, according to articles in current issues of guitar magazines, hear the difference because they are not designed and built the same, even on USA soil.
