if that wine body is a mexi you're going to have to do some routing on the neck pickup.

Sure am… I've got to rout out another input as well.

I actually got to it this afternoon… I basically removed the wings between the neck and middle pickups, making what I'm jokingly calling a "hot tub" routing… it is kind of a mini pool at this point. I also got the first coat of shielding paint applied… Oregon weather is in full effect and hence, dry time will be upped significantly. I have it drying in the laundry room instead of my unheated shop… I should be able to get another coat on tomorrow.

The neck also arrived today and I'll get some pics up… it feels nice. The frets are a little smaller than the ones on the Am.Spec./Hwy1 but I think they'll feel good… the fit and finish on the neck is flawless. It's getting pretty darn tough to knock the stuff coming out of Mexico these days. I'll get some pics ups soon. Cheers.

Yeah, I didn't think twice about using Mexican necks on my doubleneck project.

Here's what's in the works for today… I need to apply another 3 or 4 coats of shielding paint (the can suggests at least three... I've been using 5 and getting good results) I also need to paint the term cavity as that's where the pre-amp is going to be located. I need to rout a tiny bit out to get the battery to fit back there also… I had to do the same when mounting the battery in another strat. Should anything else exciting happen today I'll keep you updated with pics.

Can anyone please tell me why Fender drills those holes on the body that don't have a purpose?

They are for machining placement.

I've always wondered about those holes too…

I got the brass term block installed today, blocked the trem, and ordered the preamp. Things are coming together slowly just need the pickups and to tackle the wiring. It may need to wait a spell with the holidays looming...

Slight change of plans…

I've decided to go for a H/H/H configuration instead of the original plan of a H/S/H. This will require that I turn my "hot tub" routing into a full-on pool rout. I'll have to do some more painting and modify the pickguard too. I'm going to mount 2mm metal pickup rings on top of the pickguard instead of trying to cut a perfect hole out of the middle… this strategy should cover any sloppy cutting of the guard. It may look a little goofy but I think it will look better than a poorly cut pickup hole on the guard. Time will tell.

Part of the reason I've opted to go this rout is that ol' Jer liked to play the middle pickup quite often, both split and in humbucker mode. This way I can have a Super 2 in the neck and middle, and the Super Distortion in the bridge.

I managed to get a little work done… not my first choice for toggle placement but it'll have to do, space is cramped inside and at least where they're at they're lined up nicely. Just need to order pickups and wait for the preamp to arrive and I'll be able to get some wiring done! :)

The last of the (guitar) parts arrive today so I should be able to complete the wiring and get things assembled…

Then I need to build the junction box…

Needless to say I'll get some pictures up once things come together. 8)

It plays great (unplugged), I really like the feel of the neck. She is a hefty gal… tipping the scales at almost nine pounds. A lot of the extra weight is simply the pickguard assembly… oh well, it's not a concern but I did notice it once it was finished and I strapped it on.

Unfortunately there's no telling if I wired it up correctly on the first try as I haven't built the junction box or purchased the TRS cable. I'm not sure if I could check any functionality by plugging in a standard cable to either jack??? I haven't tried but am just going to wait until things are finished so I can properly diagnose a problem should one arise…

I have to say, I think it looks pretty darn sweet… the all black guard setup makes it look a little less understated despite the jazillion screws… it looks like it's been bedazzled. I'll get some better pictures up when the sun comes out… my camera likes sunny days!

This is just with the preamp working, not the effects loop… seems it's wired correctly (as far as the switching)… time will tell how I did on the rest of it when I finish the box. I'm digging' it so far! 8)

Brother, I was very skeptical about this strat sound wise.
Let me tell you, sounds amazing... Better than what I imagined.
I was intrigued with the wiring and the build, but came out a Winner.
I would love to hear it with some dirt.

Nice build project. Do not know how I missed this one. Great to see on the Forum. Nice sound and very interesting as we have been discussing the 3 humbuckers config on another thread. Like your tone. Looking forward to more.....

Thanks… yeah, I was poking around there too. Those were some pretty interesting pickup arrangements. Not "interesting" like weird, just not anything like I'd seen. I'd love to try something like that out or hear one in action.

I've been having a blast playing the one I just assembled… it's definitely a keeper :D . The junction box is coming along well too. I'm putting the final clear coats on the pedal and practiced my painting yesterday on the inside of the bottom plate. I figured if I was going to mess up, that would be the place to do it. It's been a while since doing any painting like that. I'm not exactly sure why I serial numbered it, just for fun I guess though I will probably make another box for my secondary guitar rig.

I'll get more pictures up after things are painted and wired.
