Music Zoo is a good and conscientous dealer, (and good folks as well!) but they were either mis-informed or perhaps the numbers got reversed. All the best, rob

I LOVE IT!!!

Rob right in the groove and much appreciated. However, and as a matter of review, The Music Zoo's guitar, SN8954647 which you found was completed in March 1999, was referenced for talking point.

The OP's guitar is SE910710 which we yet have no dates on.

My guitar's headstock SN# is SE900891 with a neck end date of 3/8/1990. There's a neck pocket date which reads '5 1990'. I can't determine if there's a month associated with that stamp because, in usual classic Fender fashion, there are letters or initials overwritten in black marker in the pocket...Maybe 'AT'..and a half circle as if in an attempt to circle the date.

The tendency for production staff to muddy these neck pockets is historic, and frustrating to no end. Here we have a situation where SE8 guitar has a completion date 9 years later than the build date of the neck on my SE9

Fascinating :!:
Rob. Would you be so kind as to investigate both the OP's guitar and mine for build dates? We'd love to see where this goes.

As for The Music Zoo....a class act!. I used to live about 40 minutes from their new Roslyn location. I wish we had something of their ilk in Palm Beach County.

Now when I get home I am going to pull the neck off my SE9 Clapton Strat. These were famous for having messed up serial numbers as pointed out on this thread. I want to see how close mine was made compared to ZZDoc's as mine is pewter as well.

Unfortunatly, the neck and the neck slot on the body are the best bets since as John C mentioned our computer records only go back to 92-93 at best.
I agree with Gently gently ;O)

cheers,
rob

Computer records are only as good as the data input/inputtee. A carefully stamped neck end, neck pocket, sans over-writing will outlive a crashed and wiped hard-drive/data base.
