Hi, quick question.

A method of recording I like doing is,

Plugging my guitar right into the mic input, With the right guitar volume level, the recordings sound good.

Now, I put my SQUIER BULLET STRAT SINGLE COIL at 3 & 4 sounds great.

With my SQUIER AFFINITY FAT STRAT DOUBLE COIL WITH WHAMMY BAR, It doesn't matter what the volume setting, the recordings SOUND REAL DISTORTED,

I am guessing my FAT STRAT Output is TOO LOUD for my METHOD OF RECORDING ?

I also got heavier strings on my Affinity as well

Any guesses ?

Thanks.

It depends how hot the bridge humbucker is and - more importantly - the amp and pedalboard's settings you're using.

Usually a hotter pickup means higher output and more distortion/crunch.

To me it sounds like you need a transformer like a DI box as your mic input has a different impedance then your guitar you need to match the impedance.

AH Okay, So My guess of my AFFINITY being a higher output is dead on ?

Your guitar is a high impedance, Unbalanced ( uses 2 pins, tip and sleeve) devise, and the Mic input is a low impedance, Balanced ( uses 3 pins Hot, Neutral, and Ground ) you need to match the impedance and you will be able to play either guitar at a much higher volume level ( Volume Knob)

In electronics, high impedance means that a point in a circuit (a node) allows a relatively small amount of current through. High impedance circuits are low current, high voltage, whereas low impedance circuits are the opposite.

Some hi-fi amplifiers usually feature a microphone input jack with an impedance switch for use with a guitar or bass.

I do not recommend plugging a guitar into a hi-fi equipment.

Yes for your method of recording, not saying your wrong just saying.

I will use a DI box (Direct Input) any time I interface a guitar with a audio desk ( Mixing Board) live or recording and never is there an issue with overloading the signal

Plugging directly into your computer (soundcard) that way doesn't convert the input signal to digital. If you choose to keep doing that, you should adjust your sound preferences in your computer.
If you use a USB interface or buffered soundcard, you would control with each device.

You will get a better sound going digitally in.

I have used pro tools and other digital interfaces I still prefer using a mic in front and behind my cabinet and a DI plugged into my audio desk going to my Studer 8 channel 1/2 reel to reel tape recorder and cutting and splicing. I feel it sounds more natural and real than when I use the computer method

You should be able to compensate by lowering the volume. Go to the Sound mixer on your PC (You can reach it by clicking on the litter speaker symbol on the task bar, then double click the vol control when it appears, you can also get to it from the Control Panel). You should be able to obtain a setting that is suitable for all the guitars.
