I used to use an Ibanez SD-9 (Think of the TS-9 on steroids. It was a distortion pedal, not an overdrive, but of course just turn the distortion down and you're in TS territory). Now I use Paul Gilbert's signature Majik Box Fuzz Universe pedal. Thrust 2 gives me desirable picking attack and Thrust 1 gives me the viscosity and sustain for lead tones.

Hi j.4knee. Ah-ha! My tastes are far from what the HM2 is designed for, and yet to my own surprise I find I like that pedal and use it now and again, at the lower end of its range settings. Nice sounds.

I have many drive and distortion pedals including some of the classics. But the only one that lives permanently in my practice rig is the Blackstar HT Dual, which is a two channel valve driven unit offering boost, drive and distortion.

Don't use a pedal at all for battlefield volume levels...

Cheers - C

It seems that pedals are trendy and right now the Wampler line is getting a lot of good press. I saw a player using the Wampler Sovereign the other night with a Strat through a Vibroverb and it sounded real good.

This one:

Might have a look around reverb.com :?:

Just exchanged my TS9 for a TS9DX, this to my ears is a better option. I get a nice over drive and a reasonable crunch when needed. If I find I need more I'll probably add an MXR distortion pedal to my chain or something similar. I'd also like to give a Fulltone OCD a test drive.

Pharaoh on the left, Small Fry up top - I can mix these in parallel with the LS-2. The modded Jackhammer gets used as a clean boost/pre dist eq most of the time.

I use a Seymour Duncan pickup booster with a TS9 Tube Screamer. I also have a Big Muff for the really fuzzy distorted stuff.

I would have to agree!
I play mainly HSS formatted Strats and the Fulltone OCD has given me "my" sound!
I am constantly getting audience compliments on my sound when playing out.I own a V2 and a V3....I've sold all my others on E-Bay....don't need them anymore!

For me … overdrive pedals come and go. They all seem to promise what they can't deliver. Right now I'm using a Fulltone OCD (V4) and a Tech21 California and they do pretty close to what I want. The California is not a pure OD pedal, IMO but I do find it useful.

The only OD pedal I ever tried that I regret selling was a Keeley modded BOSS SD-1. That was a great overdrive pedal. If they could have EQd that thing just a pinch darker it would have been indispensable. The tone control could not be dialled to reach what I wanted but it was close. Close enough that in hindsight I have come to regret giving it up. I prolly could have found a way to make it work.

I have never met a distortion pedal that I could truly bond with. I basically gave up looking some years back and concentrated on overdrive. I guess I shouldn't say that. I've tried a couple of Danelectro pedals that were interesting but they all seem to suffer from extremely poor quality and that 5h!t don't fly with me.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

+2 !

But, you really need to drive it with 18VDC to see what it really has to offer.

Almost a completely different pedal @ 18 than it is at 9.

Interestingly, this almost gives you two pedals in one if you swap power supplies between sets.

cheers!

Can't afford a bunch of pedals so I picked up a Boss Me-70

I really like it, it is versatile but I would rather have individuals.

I Agree, the 18V gives you more clarity and overall responsiveness.

This OD pedal is certainly the most versatile I ever owned .. and we are talking 20+ OD pedals in the past years.

:D

Thanks for reminding me about using 18V on the OCD, had totally slipped my mind. Totally, like so many things do in these days of my dotage.

I love that v4 OCD pedal, other than a rarely used TS9 it's my go to.

I've been through a lot of units; Boss Blues Driver and SuperOverDrive, H&K Cream Machine and Blues Master, an Analogman King of Tone, to name a few (that I can remember  ).

I don't need a lot of OD, but the OCD on about the 10 O'Clock position usually gets it done.
