I have an Ibanez TS9 that I love when I use it with my AR 325 but its a little thin when I use it with my DP Strat with VN Pups. I was wondering what you folks use with our Strat(s)?

The TS9 is thin? I always felt it was too much that I couldn't hear my guitar but that's me. The TS9 is an overdrive, BTW.

I suspect you might be looking for a pedal that does a few things at once. I'm don't mean a processor ... there are a few pedals out there called overdrive or distortion but you can tell there's something else going on there besides just overdrive or distortion.

The original Danelectro Daddy-O in the large, heavy, die-cast yellow box was one of those. It was a very useful sound and could be dialled up to pretty heavy levels. Unfortunately it was not a very reliable pedal and they quit making them. It was loosely based on the old Marshall Guvner but in my opinion it was a little better sounding than the old Guvner. Danelectro also made one called the Fab-Tone and it too was in a large, heavy die-cast box but that one was purple. Both of those pedals were very good at what they did but they were pretty much one trick ponies.

Another effect that has lots more going on than just overdrive or distortion is the Scholz Rockman. It too was a very high gain box and it was a very useful sound but also a one trick pony. It came in several versions. Like the Danelectros it is out of production and you'd have to find one on the used market. A couple of big name artists recorded and performed with the Rockman. It was a useful sound and very thick. A little on the noisy side, though. Prolly due to there being so much gain. Or maybe it was that way on purpose. Scholz always said he was trying to make it sound like a full stack cranked wide.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Depending on the style of music I will use either a reissue TS808, Fulltone OCD or Roger Mayer Voodoo 1. If I had to go with just one pedal for all my styles of play it would definitely be the OCD. Very flexible and can do anything from mild OD/boost through moderate distortion. The 808 matches very well with my amp ('57 Twin reissue) and the Voodoo works with any type of guitar (semi-hollow or solid body, humbucker or single coil)

Somehow the OCD seems to be Fender's best match imo.

Boss DS-1
Zakk Wylde OD pedal
Ibanez Super Tube Screamer

It all depends on what I'm trying to do tone-wise. I tender to stick to the OD pedal more than any of the others. I'm just now starting to use the Super Tube. I like the way the DS-1 sounds with my late '60s/'70s style Hwy1.

I kind of getting the feeling that the Super Tube Screamer sounds best with my Andy Summers inspired Telecaster.

Thanks, I put my old Boss HM2 back in the loop along with the TS9 and I am almost there. I just have to keep HM 2 dist cut way down IF I push the dist up everything seems to sound like twisted sister.....I should say that I substitute the HM2 for the TS9 when I am plying the Strat .... I am thinking about returning the TS9 and getting the TS9DX. I also realize the VN pups are a bit clinical sounding as well.

Right now my pedal chain is Dunlop 535Q WAH - TS9 - HM2 switching between the two disto pedals

Been a lot of years since I did this stuff and my fingers are reminding me of that on a regular basis.

Boss turbo overdrive but the turbo is off so its really just an overdrive.
I only turn it up a little just for a light extra clip.
I also have the Boss V Wah that has 3 presets if you back treadle.
I use the position 1 with a blues driver for extra Strat bridge single coil push.
I also have position 2 as a fuzz for Hendrix like craziness.
Position 3 is Univibe.

I have plenty of OD and reverb on my amp(Egnater) but I do use a Danelectro Chorus.

I used to use the Cool Cat, but died on me. What a great pedal.

Joyo Sweet Baby Overdrive and MXR Super Badass distortion. Hated my tube screamer but then it was the cheap turtle shaped one from the mid 90s.

I like the Digitech Bad Monkey to fatten up my Strats.

I'm using the ocd with my setup for distortion, for mild overdrive/breakup I use a plimsoul....but I just recently aquired a dod fx50 and all I can say is this is a sleeper pedal if your just looking for mild to medium breakup. I'd say it gives the ts a good run for the money.

There were only two videos on you tube that I could find but only the first one does it any justice. But for what you're able to find them for, they're definately worth a shot.

When not on the Fender Mustang Floor, I have a Bad Monkey I like. But, nowadays it's mostly the Mustang Floor.
