Has anybody tried just changing the milled into bent steel saddles on ( an Am Dlx) 2 point tremolo without changing the block? is it worth it ?

There are some post on Callaham bridge . IMO you nee to replace more than just the saddles.

But will you hear if better ?

Down this page , on the SEARCH window , write Callaham

You are wanting to switch to a Standard bridge that ran like 1989-2006?
With the same saddles as the Deluxe?
Those are my favorite too.
If you look on ebay I see the whole Deluxe bridge going as low as $79
But I think you can get Graph Techs
There are after market solid blocks, I hate the curled steel too.
I like my strats about 89-06 myself.

This the one I saw for $79 you have to buy a pop in bar
This is what I did to my standard, I got hella tired of screwing my bar in.

Yes its a better sounding set of saddles
Robin Trower swears by the bent saddles and influenced Fenders return.
All older gents want what they always had with no change.
I have used both and I think pound for pound the American Deluxe bridge is the best.
It offers smooth tone and and stable tuning return response.

Hi HNSFury: I have Strats with both bent steel and milled block saddles. My ears fancy that the lower mass on the "vintage" bent ones maybe gives a very slightly shorter decay and therefore less sustain but more '50s-ish twang. But it could also be that my ears aren't that good and I'm just imagining it.

Saddles are not too expensive: so give it a try and let your own ears judge whether it is a factor that matters for you or not.

What I'm not imagining is that block saddles feel a tad more comfortable under the hand if we rest it there for palm-muting. But not nearly enough for me to bother switching them just for that reason.

So my answer to your question would be that for me it is not worth the swap. I'm happy with either type of saddle and leave them as they are. But your mileage may vary.

Cheers - C

Thanks Ceri

I totally agree with you, the milled saddles are more convenient .. I just received a Callaham upgrade kit with the vintage saddles.
cheers

Good gear, no doubt about it. Do let us know how much difference your ears detect. There's no right or wrong answer to that, so we're just curious.

Cheers - C
