Hey team, I've decided to make the jump to CS69s from the N3s on my AM DLX.

My question is, can I retain the current switching system and wire the CS69s directly into the S1s? will it still retain the S1 button switching functionality?

Will they still sound good if I do this?

If I can't, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... AQ:US:1123

Will the package in the above item suffice? It seems like CS69s by themselves run about $200, so I dont know how this guy is able to sell the pickguard, selector, and pots for that price- perhaps it is lower end components?

I would do the package and have you ever used CS-69s?
You know the output will be a lot less and they are very bright.
They also are not reverse wound so no humbucking in 2 and 4.
If your wanting that there you go.
If your not, the CS Fat 50s set or Texas Special set seem to be a player favorite.

Yeah, I ended up purchasing the set last nt. I didn't realize there would be no hum cancelling on 2 and 4, thats interesting.

So what happens on 2 and 4? its neck/mid and bridge/mid but still buzzy?

What about 3?

I chose the 69s because I heard they're the closest to the big dippers- I know Mayers tone well so I thought I would just play it safe. output not an issue for me.

Yeah just no hum cancelling but they sound fantastic.
My friend has an old 66 Strat and they sound a lot like those.
You will be happy.

I've no idea about the S1 switching, but I have CS69's in my Highway One Strat, and they sound good wired up to the greasebucket circuit - pretty much a late 60's Strat tone, with no frills.

Yes you can wire in the S1 I presume you have the sss version. Imagine all 3 69 pickups on at once!
If the middle was RWRP then you would have problems so luckily you went for a 69 for the middle.
I recommend taking photos before you proceed just so you have a point of return should it go pear shaped.
The other option is of course just wire up a new combo using the new parts and sell or tuck away the original set for another day. :D

I've just received them, trying to put them on now, the box came all jumbled up, how do you know which pickup is bridge/neck/mid?

are they all the same?

The CS 69's are not position-specific......they're all wound the same.

Bleh, I also realized that the pack I bought didn't come with additional wire for connecting the pots to the switch-etc.

If I go to radioshack what kind of wire should I ask for?

did some searching and apparently 22 awg stranded pretinned wire is recommended.

Is there anything else I need to complete the job?

Are these the official schematics? none came in the box. Image

Yes that's them and they should have enough wire on them to cut off extra and do job.
If not look up vintage cloth guitar wire on eBay.

I've put the Customs 69s in and there is buzzing through out.

Obviously I realize its suppose to buzz, what I mean is when you play, it keeps buzzing.

From my previous experience, the buzz usually stops once you actually start playing.

did i do something wrong?

I followed this diagram http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wi ... s_1v_2t_5w

Except I connected the empty terminal with the one below it (so that I have tone control on the bridge pickup).

If I touch the metal input jack with my hands, the buzzing goes away.

(I didnt wire anything to the tremolo claw because it wasnt in the instructions)

Likely that's the cause of your buzz.

Try running a conventional ground wire from the housing of the volume pot to the claw. Make sure your solder joints are solid.
