I would say half my customers have stratosphere parts in there Strats and Les Pauls.

You recall that 'Strato-sphere'/Reliable Fender has been the subject of some of our more heated debates on the Forums...not so much to the issue of being a guitar chop shop, but the issue of the sale of neck plates and necks with serial numbers, and perhaps even COA's all of which can encourage 'misrepresentation', if I may be so polite.

No I hadn't heard of that.
I wouldn't and didn't do anything like that.
I just bought parts to fix peoples guitars.
There are lots of sellers selling parts on there.
Everything I have seen was legit seemed like.
But Im sure you can always find a snake in the grass somewhere.
That's funny I was thinking just today I haven't heard from Doc lately

Sometimes you have to free yourself up to avoid having to pay alimony.

mhowell - that's a unique Strat, set neck Ultra Dlx with painted headstock, any more details?

Current crop and I really like them all:

Top - Maybe my favorite, a Relic build Partscaster (all Fender parts),

Middle - Restored '93 Plus with Ultra Pups,

Bottom - Stock '03 version 2 Am Dlx, S-1 switching and SCN Pups.

The COA calls it a "Custom Set-Neck Stratocaster".

Image

I traded an 88 Strat plus and an 89 MIA for it about a year ago. It is basically a Strat Ultra with a set neck. The Custom Shop produced them in the 90's.

This particular one was special ordered in '96 - at least that's what Fender customer service told me. I am guessing it was special ordered just for the gold hardware as that is the only unique feature on this guitar compared to other "Custom Set-Neck Stratocasters". I've not seen another one with gold hardware. Gold Hardware is generally not popular these days but I like and on this guitar it contrast well with the black headstock and ebony fretboard.

Bad news: The allen head screws on the bridge are close to being stripped out and need to be replaced. The original trem arm is missing and the COA is a replacement. For $75 fender will replace a lost COA as long and they're able to verify that the guitar is genuine. The replacement will have a date of replacement on it instead of the original date of issue.

The ebony fingerboard is a pleasant surprise. I'd not owned a guitar with ebony before and wasn't sure I'd like it but it's really smooth.

Here's another one on ebay. I think the asking price on that one is about $500 to $1000 too high.

Beautiful guitar !

I bet it plays amazing !

IMHO, Fender should offer a line of set neck guitars, though I realize that bolt-on necks are almost a trademark for them.

Not to hi-jack the thread, but since it came up, while not a CS model, I love my newly acquired FSR Custom Telecaster HH w/ EMG active Pickups and set neck.

Image

To be honest, with it's set neck, Mahogany Body/Neck, 15¾" radius, 24.75" scale length and twin humbuckers, it sounds very unFender like, as if it's more related to an LP than a Fender. The twin humbuckers vs single coil take away the Classic Tele Twang but that's neither good or bad, just different (dare I say in a good way?)

Image

But still, the Fit & Finish is tremendous and I love the solidity that the set neck gives it.

Image

While I love all my other Fender guitars for what they are (or are not), this one, w/ it's flatter fingerboard and shorter scale length makes it a natural bender.

I'm not yet experienced enough to know what role this guitar will play in my Music, but I do know that it's a joy to play and will be with me a long time !

cheers!
