Hi all, here's one I was wondering what everyone here thinks about.

The guy selling it claims he was told by some sort of expert that this is an original 1963 Strat. However he can't prove it apparently. It is selling very cheap due to the fact he can't prove this. Seems unlikely that it is genuine, but could there be a chance?

I asked Fender on the phone but they couldn't trace back the serial number the guy gave me because it didn't not resemble the numbers they use on file. They said it was probably too old to dig up info on. Any thoughts?

Here are the pics.

Sorry not sure how to embed so just linked.

Also the serial number he gave me was:

PAT 2741146 - 3143028

Well he said that's all he can find in terms of an numbers on there. So he reckons that must be the serial. Fender said it was too long and too different and they don't have records going back that far. Any thoughts?

It's fake. Headstock is wrong.

Wow I didn't even see that. But I've never handled a real '63 to compare. I tried googling but that didn't really help much. Okay. Now I know!

Not a chance!

That guitar's about as "original" as Halle Berry's hooters.

Oh yeah. I must have lost my mind. I kept thinking the 60s headstocks were like the 70s ones. Instead of starting small, going big, then going small again if you know what I mean.

It seems to want to be a 1969 Strat. But not a particularly good fake.

It looks like a Roadworn body with a Squier neck.

Yeah I'd better learn that.

Oh well I wonder if the owner really knows this or is genuinely oblivious.
