What's the easy way to plug in to my iphone or ipad? Just thinking I can practice "covertly" and not bother anyone else in the house that way. Just looking online there seems to be several options. Not looking for a lot of options and sophistication, just practicing by myself. Anyone have a story, recommendation or opinion on any of these devices?
BTW, something that's simple to use would be a big plus!
Thanks

Try this, I have the classic rock one and I like it for quiet practice. Y ou can get them for around $40.00 on ebay. http://www.voxamps.com/amplug/ just plug it into your guitar and plug in the head phones and you can plug your iphone 3.5mm jack into it and play along with music on your phone

+1

You will need an iRig, this will work with iPad or iPhone. GarageBand also.

I'm about to give GarageBand a try too..

got it, very cool. simple. easy to use. seems kinda low quality but if it doesn't fail it'll be a great deal, at least for now.
Thanks for all the feedback

I started with a cheap iRig but now use an Apogee Jam
and the sound is so much better - it's like listening to
128 kbps vs FLAC.

Just about any amp has a headphone output which will do the same thing. When you use the Headphones, the speaker is disconnected so no sound comes out of the amp. You can get "good enough" head phones from Best Buy for about $17.00. My amp has built in sound effects so I can hear it that way as well.

You can also plug the guitar into your PC and record what you play and then play along with it on playback.

regards,

Vox also makes amPhones that are headphones that plug directly into your guitar. They have one that sounds like an AC30, one with a Twin sound and one with a Marshall sound. I've got the Twin one and it's great for playing at home after I put everyone to bed.

Thanks - it sounds even better than it looks.

The fact that it's audiobus compatible is even better.

With iOS 7 came IAA (inter app audio) - so not all musical apps are compatible yet.

Another iRig / Amplitube Free user here, typically with iPad but also handy to be able to walk around with an iPhone in your pocket. With some good headphones I think it makes a nice practice rig, occasionally I'll send the output to an amp for fun. Would like to try one of the digital interfaces like the Apogee or new IK sometime.

I bought one of those for my iPod touch last year and sent it back the next day. I wanted to be able to play along with songs that were loaded on my iPod, but it seems you could only do one or the other. That defeats the purpose as far as I'm concerned.
