Maybe a partscaster? Neck plate indicates 1967 MIA but screws don't appear to have been well plated. Tuners look low end. It's not Graffiti Yellow.

Hi restless,

It was not made in USA anywhere near 1989, it is not Graffiti Yellow.

It looks like fake, with a mix of time period details, like a 50s style pick guard, a serial number that dates to the late 60s, a 70s neck style, not Fender tuners from any period, the wrong decal style on the headstock. The details that you have given are simply not true.

Based on what can be seen, I would have to conclude that the guitar is a complete fake, with the possibility of having a Fender bridge and maybe pups, but I would have to doubt if even they are real Fender parts.

A picture of the underside of the pick guard and body routing could confirm whether the pups and body are Fender or not, but I doubt that they would be real, being as how the rest is fake.

It looks almost like my '73 Strat that tuned that shade of yellow after years of playing in roadhouses. The key word is 'almost'.

The handle is very worn but the back does not seem to have lived, also the head!
Bizarre!

The bridge is incorrect for an American standard strat at that time.

A '70s-era Fender Strat with the bullet truss-rod adjustment would have a 3-bolt neck (unless it were a '79 25th Anniversary model which this guitar is clearly not). The tuners look like something salvaged from a derelict Hondo or Aria clone and the bridge saddles should be the cast Mazac type (as would be the entire bridge/block assembly). It'd be interesting to disembowel this instrument and determine the actual pedigree of the body and neck.

Sometimes I wonder if we do not serve as a test for counterfeits.
We give things a more correct!

Always a possibility.

OTOH, if the facts are withheld an unsuspecting Fender enthusiast may be duped.

Judging by the small splodge of stain on the B string slot in the nut , I suspect the fretboard and headstock have been "reliced" (IE edges of fretboard chipped, fretboard not too badly reliced and then finished off with a nice thick coating of either brown stain or shoe polish)
Shame it wasn't carried over onto the back of the neck which looks 15 years younger

I spend quite a bit of my time in various parts of Asia with my work. 98% of the Fenders I have seen that people claim were Made in America were fakes. Some poorly done, some almost convincing. The older beat up ones were even harder to tell until you got them in your hands. A close look at quality, parts, etc. one could pick up right away that something was WRONG! :?

24 years of wear on the fret board, 24 minutes of wear on the neck. Did someone open up a can of tuna? Something smells fishy....

It's an Olympic White Strat that the clear coat has yellowed.
