This promo is no value to the sinisterly impaired and Fender's unwillingness to remedy the affliction, the main intent of the post.

Unfortunately for leftys; they often get left out in the rain unless they are cool with the Jimi Hendrix upside down look!

You mean like Albert King, Doyle Bramhall II, Otis Rush and others of their ilk :?:

To me, it seems that the S-1 switch is more of a marketing gimmick; the applications in which they are employed could easily by handled by a push/pull pot or even the Super Switch (as was the case with the original USA Lone Star Strat).

So; you could start with a LH Standard Strat and simply replace the pickups and pickguard which would make it similar to the specs of the outgoing Deluxe Lone Star. If you want to be able to split the humbucker, you'll need to use some kind of special switching and again, you don't need the S-1 to do that - if I recall, I think you could even wire the regular 5-way to split the humbucker in position 2.

The pickups are, of course, Texas Specials in the neck and mid positions and a new (at least for this model) Twin Head humbucker in the bridge. This a departure from the previous incarnations of the Lone Star which had used a unique variant of Seymour Duncan's Pearly Gates pickup: the Pearly Gates Plus. This pickup was made specially for Fender and is not available from Seymour Duncan (well, they might do it for you....they do custom wind pickups for their customers). But according to Duncan, the closest stock pickup they offer to the PG+ is the '59 humbucker. Also on this point, I personally feel that this change makes this guitar more of a Deluxe HSS Strat than a true Lone Star...BTJM.

Cheers.

The reason I said that I wanted a Lonestar is that I want a versatile guitar that could go into..."heavier" territories when needed, so a humbucker on the bridge position that could coil-split for more traditional Strat bridge tones seemed the way to go. It's just that I also like the sound/tone of the Lonestar in the vid through that JVM and the Rosewood fingerboard.

Your comment about the S-1 switch got my attention. To be honest for some weird reason I've never read up on it and always thought it was just Fender's official-top-quality-coil-tap-switch with 500k Ohm or something. But after reading your post I looked it up and I get what you're saying. Even though I like the versatility, all I'm caring about now is the split/tap, so a regular, good push/pull pot would suffice.

I want a Lone Star too, but I want one made in USA they are a little older and really awesome.
They have a universal route and Billy Gibbons used to use them I hear.
Anyway they sound awesome on Classic and Southern Rock
Every time I go into the Texas Road House and eat I think damn I still want a Lone Star.
:)

+1 on the US Lonestar... I would love to see Fender bring the Roadhouse, Lonestar and Big Apple back to US-made status!

Yes and EXACTLY the way they were with universal route.
It got a sound like no other Strat.
I want one so bad myself.

Every time a reissue comes out- I don't understand why it's not MIA and made in China or Mexico...

It's like when the reissue Lonestar came out, one of its original MIA selling features was the bright colours it came in.. And then it came in from Mexico, in the most plain everyday boring colours with a 21 fret neck..?

The Tele Plus is another prime example.. Made from Pine, incorrect pickups, made in China in only 2 colours. To me, there were 2 models of the Tele plus and this guitar doesn't look like one of them.

May as well opt for a Nashville Tele if one would switch pickups to lace sensors.

I give a nod to Gibson however, at least all their reissue stuff is MIA- even those originally from the 80's

....although.....with the implementation of the Custom Shop Fat 50's, it seems to me that the American Standard HSS has moved one step closer to Lone Star territory.

What was the cool thing about the Real American Lonestar was the Super Switch allowing for more cool pickup combinations.
The Pearly Gates plus with Texas Specials and you actually got a true 2 and 4 position for quack.
It actually split the coils on the humbucker to comibine with the middle pickup.
No extra S-1 or push pull needed.
Combined with the better American standard tremolo with cast saddles and universal route,
this guitar only needed locking tuners added to make it the most perfect blues/classic rock/southern rock guitar ever known to mankind.

Im a classic color guy myself Black White and 3 tone sunburst, but thought the other colors
were a great addition to attract even more sales.

As I've previously mentioned around here on this forum, I was once the very happy owner of a '97 US Lone Star Strat (3 tone sunburst, rosewood board). Fender's 5-way Super Switch is a thing of beauty but I figured that it was being put to rather limited use. So, I rewired mine so that not only did I get that Strat quack in position 2, but I was also able the neck and front coil of the humbucker in position 3 and it was hum-cancelling too. I had a guitar the could sound like a Strat, a Tele, and give bit of a nod to a Les Paul-like tone. The only single-coil setting was the neck only.

That's pretty cool.
That's the model I am looking for 3 tone rosewood MIA Lonestar I have been watching eBay.

A "better playing, better sounding" version came out in 2000 when the American Standard was re-christened the American Series. The Lone Star became the American Fat Strat Texas Special (gotta give Fender credit for creativity in choosing a new name for the guitar).

Discontinued in 2002 and replaced by the American Strat HSS w/ S1 Switch in 2003; the S1 switch has been removed in 2008 when the American Series was renamed American Standard.

This guitar in its present form sports a Diamondback humbucker in the bridge and two Custom Shop Fat 50s singlecoils in the neck & middle.

In some ways, I think of the outgoing MIM Lone Star to be closer to the old US Lone Star vs. the current version. They were both basically hot-rod versions of the basic American/Mexican Strat model and had the same pickups. It would have been nice if the MIM had the same switching, but it would be relatively easy to replace the switch. The one nice thing about the new Lone Star is that it has 22-frets, but that may not be too important to you if you don't spend a lot of time playing high up on the neck.
