One thing I would like to add to this discussion—that guitar is gorgeous! I've never seen a studio model with that kind of flame top before. And the studios are lighter guitar so that makes it really nice. I had an 05 Les Paul with this same flame look. I think it was called Black Cherry? I put a 1981 Les Paul bridge pickup and a Linday Fralin in the neck to liven up the tone. Not suggesting that for you, as Danny's idea I think will work great for you!)

Thank you all... its much appreciated!

I will do Donny's recommendation, I already ordered the orange drops 0.022, but how do I ground the tone pot ? It might be a real stupid question, but I'm basically an acoustic guitar player

I think you answered your own question. You repeatedly said how much your like the Stratocaster.

So what are you doing with an LP ???

And why come to a Stratocaster board w/ an LP problem ??

cheers!

Well on the tone pot You see in the modern lug one is grounded to the kettle.

You are going to unsolder and lift it and lug two you will take a bit of the hard wire lead from the cap and ground lug 2 or the middle lug to the kettle of the potentiometer.
I have highlighted the grounds in green in the picture.

The mod your doing is as simple as removing the cap and soldering it in a different place, the middle lug on the volume pot, then changing the ground from lug one to middle lug on the tone pot.
You then solder the cap to the lug one that you unsoldered on the tone pot, so don't destroy it lifting it.
Job finished.

Point of information for the masses. With all the discussions we've had in the past regarding playability between Les Pauls and Strats, there's hardly a mention of the fact the the Jaguar's scale is 24", is now available in a variety of styles and pickup combinations, and just might be the answer someone is looking for in a Fender guitar.

Thanks Donny

I just finished the 50s wiring with the orange drops, and the guitar "Woke Up". I Will fiddle around with the guitar today to see what this wiring offers, but it sure is a major difference. The modern wiring for my taste, al east at lower volumes, was muffed and lacks luster.

Thanks Again ... I still have to take off the covers and get rid of the extra wax next time I change the strings.

Cheers
HNS

Good point Doc .... the last time I played one was a few years back.... I can't remember how it played though...I wonder why this guitar never made it to the limelight ....looks? dunno!

A magnet swap is way beyond my capabilities
The 490/498 aren't that bad either. Compared with the SD JB Jazz I have in my Schecter they sound more alive. I might need to put some orange drops or PIO's in that one too.

Next in line for me is changing the tremolo system on my deluxe the next time I change strings. I guess you said in another board that you liked the milled saddles with a calaham block more than the bent steel ones. I got the entire system I guess I gotta fiddle with that too.

Cheers and thanks again
