What do you think about using D'addario Chromes on a Strat? I have a De Luxe Ash American Strat. Chromes 010. Help me wth your comments!

My advise... don't mess with them as they will tear up your frets really fast... especially if you like bending as much as I do.

I agree 100%. I use D'addario as well but I use the nickle.

Hello Scrat72,

Right now I'm using .012-.052 Chromes,
Previously had been using them on a SG,
sold the SG, had a pack left strung up the Strat.
They sound alright but I'm more familiar with
them through humbuckers, so I'm not totally
pleased with them.

Cheers.

I've found with flat wounds you can only get classic jazz sounds, but that's just with my jazz box. When you add any drive it just sounds weird. They are NOT versatile, I'd just stick with the XL's they're a sure bet.

i use thomastik-infeld flatwound 10 guage on my #1 and DR pure blues 11's on my second in command. I like the DR's but i LOVE the flatwounds. I play mostly blues too and they roar through my deluxe amp.YMMV

I have used Chromes on my basses before so I thought I would try them on one of my guitars. That guitar became one of my least used axes. I kept thinking that I would find some use for that tone but it never happened. It was good as an exercise in adjusting playing style but I changed back to the XL's on it. Much happier again.
