I've recently put together a six piece band and we are currently doing covers with the plan for originals down the road. I've found that I've needed to use either my MIJ Jazzmaster or my CIJ Telecaster in band practice as my Strat is too thin sounding to be versatile enough for the songs we are doing. I've got a 2001 American Deluxe Strat with the noiseless pickups that are stock.

I use a Seymour Pickup booster and an Ibanez TS9 Tubescreamer on my pedal board. While I get some over driven tones, they are nothing to what my Tele or Jazzmaster deliver in terms of fatness.

I love the way my Strat looks and feels and it's the most comfortable Guitar I have to play. To get any kind of fatness I have to dial up the pickup booster pedal to full and use my Big Muff with the tone all the way up but the Sustain nearly all the way down.

To this end, I've been looking at the Bare Knuckle Slow Hands pickups that may solve my problems. They seem to bring a level of fatness that I've been craving without losing the sparkle and clarity for which Strats are renowned for.

Does anyone have any experience with these Bare Knuckle Strat pickups?

I'm a member of a church band with three guitarists and it can be a challenge to get out of way of other player's sound. It's one of the challenges having everyone stand out and "cut through the mix." You may or may not know this, but there are two things you can do to stand out in the mix.

1. Use different chord voicings or play in a different octive.

2. Play in a different time space.

Watch this video. Just Nick explains how to get yourself heard.

Also, are you the only guitars and if there are other guitarists, are they playing Strats or Les Pauls. Changing to a guitar that sounds completely different than the guitarist makes a big difference.

I hope this helps.

The other Guitarist plays a Telecaster. We've already worked out ways to play "around" each other. The issue is with the poor output of my Strat.

For example, behind blues eyes I'd play clean until the song really kicks up a notch about two thirds in. Until then I play it clean and then switch over to overdrive until just before the end of the song where I switch back to clean. With all of my other Guitars (Gibson SG, Rickenbacker 360, Jazzmaster and Telecaster) I don't even have to make a volume change from one to the other. Because the Strat output is so weak, I really have to turn up just to be heard on the clean and then dial down the output when I'm using overdrive.

I don't know that this will necessarily work, but I'd suggest trying Lindy Fralin's Steel Poled 43 pickups. They are supposed have qualities that are similar (some would even say "identical") to a P-90 and boast a 25% increase in output vs. typical Strat pickups. There is also a Steel Poled 42 set that is similar, but a little lower in output.

hi , what kind of amp are you using ? i use my strat (mij 57 reis ) for anything from hendrix (through a jcm800 with an old fuzz face ) very bassy with the neck pup but switch to the bridge and wow , to rory gallagher stuff through a vox ac 15 with a rangemaster clone , quite a trebly tone but when loud enough it both cuts through and is powerfull enough to not sound thin , cheers
