I need to replace my strings, on a envelope that came with the guitar it said it uses 150 light gauge which I believe are the .009-.042 gauge strings, but when I go to the Fender website and look up the American Vintage Series 59 Stratocaster model and click on the specs, it says it uses the 250R NPS .010-.046 gauge strings. I just wanted to know which ones to use.

Thank You

Back in the day (the mid '60s) the Fender 150L string set was sized at .010" through .046". It was the 150XL set that started with the smaller .009" gauge.

The company has been using 9's as original factory equipment. We've been given to understand that they feel the gauge is easier to play. However, they pay great attention to the issue of period correctness. Thus, for the so called 'vintage' models, they use 10's, which were factory original back in the day. It goes without saying that you can install anything you feel comfortable playing. Just make sure that, in particular should you go heavier than 10's , that the nut is properly cut and the guitar set up and intonated as required.
