Hi all,

I have an AmStd HSS Strat 2007 or 2008 not sure, with S-1 switching and added locking tuners.

During my search for sound, feel and compromise for comfort I ended up with classic 9-42 strings. Mostly I use Ernie Ball Super Slinkys. Before that I tried various string gauges (up to 11's) and because of that had standard nut recut. Now when I'm back to 9's I think high E,B and G strings are too deep in the nut.

I bend quite a lot and use tremolo bar often too. I'm having some tuning issues also, but that showed up recently.
Also G string tends to make screeching sound when bending after about 3 weeks of use (thats around 15-20 hrs of playing).
Could it be the nut?

I was planning on replacing the nut anyway so my main questions are:
- Should I use original fender replacement or:
- maybe TUSQ XL http://www.graphtech.com/products/brand ... c39b4f0382
- or http://www.graphtech.com/products/brand ... bc5f58cdba
- or same as above but 42 mm version that is 3/16" tall?

I measured mine and I think it is around 42 mm high?

How do I know wheter the nut bottom is flat or curved on my guitar?
It think it should be flat, but can somebody confirm that for shure?

I'm not interested in LSR nut so please help me in my direction ;)

Thanks for help in advance.

Best regards,
T.

One more option.

If it has curved bottom maybe this one?

I don't really fancy a black nut even less black string tree but if this material is worth something in you experience I would forget the colour :)

The Tusk XL is by far the best for Trem use or bending. Once your guitar is setup properly and lubed right you will not have any problems with "out-of-tune" issues. I tried the black one on a Ebony board - just could not get used to not seeing it, and went back to the white.

Ok, I will go for white XL.

Any tips on how to find out wheter my standard nut is flat or curved at the bottom?

If it's the original neck, it is curved like the fretboard. I use properly slotted bone nuts. The cyclovac Fender uses is softer, about the same as a Tusq. You can tweak bone nut slots better IMO. A little lube when changing strings and you're set.
