That would be the 10/56...likely close to what is described as the 'boat neck' on the above diagram. If you can find your way to the extensive neck profile discussions of years ago we've had on the Eldred Forum you'll come to understand the conundrum. There are a constellation neck shapes in the Fender neck galaxy. Have a look at the Custom Shop order sheet as an example. The only way to one's holy grail of necks is to play 'em.

I fully agree with your highlighted statement.
I'll add that it's worth going to a decent music store with a resident guitar tech - I spent a couple of hours on Saturday playing on a number of Fender guitars (3 out of the 4 current vintage Strat models - there are 2 '59 models), and the '59 Rosewood felt great, but it was tuned to E flat.
Retuned to standard E and everything needed adjustment - nothing that couldn't be sorted out quickly by an experienced tech/player, but enough to change an initial "like" to a "not so sure".

The '56 was initially a big lump to play, but that feeling didn't last very long.
With time I could grow to love the way this feels to play.

Water finds its own level. Yah! That 10/56 is a piece of wood, for sure. For me, the Clapton neck is the best. Now own two gems. I'm done. The other two: a standard V-neck Deluxe VG and a '57 VHR with a modified soft-V; The Gilmour has a vintage C neck, but that goes with the territory. Search on, pilgrim.

@ZZDoc

I'm curious about the so-called "59 backshape" James Tyler uses for his necks.

Is that '59 shape the soft V profile Clapton loves so much or it's an even more pronounced C?

I'm asking that question because I never played a '59 Strat (original or reissue) neither any of those boutique Tylers.

Wish I could help you directly, I have no familiarity with that instrument. Most of the vendors I shop don't stock it. Comparing it to the schematic presented on this thread, and guitars I've actually played, the closest to it in the Fender line I can suggest at the moment would be the SRV, which I don't care for. The 10/56 on the new Amercian Vintage '56 is definitely a chunkier neck and not my style either. The soft 57-V, which is likely the stock V neck Fender uses, and which I have on the VG, is tad less than the '56. The Clapton, despite the numbers shown has a far sleeker feel than the previous three and is my go to preference, which among other reasons, I pulled the trigger on that '87. I will keep your question in mind and revisit it should I actually get to play a Tyler. I'll also look out for the Line 5 Variax of his, as well.:wink:
