The hum cancelling thing is hard to get your head round at first, let me have a stab at a simple explanation here, just with two pickups.

Here's a sine wave output, imagine this is your audio signal from one pickup.

Image

If you wind the coil the opposite direction then that same pickup will produce this, the same signal but turned upside down. Bear with me, this will become easy to understand ...

Image

And if you turn the magnets upside down then you get back to this ...

Image

So the audio outputs of pic 1 (normal pickup) and pic 3 (RWRP pickup) are the same.

How does this cancel hum? See next post. Might take a while, I'm making pics and typing here.

So now think about some electromagnetic noise entering the pickup. This will affect the first pickup like this ...

Image

BUT - and it's a big BUT ... the same noise source then enters the second pickup which has a reverse-wound coil and the result is the noise voltage is inverted in that pickup ...

Image

Why is this important? Don't miss part 3 of this thrilling series of posts

When you add together the voltages from the two pickups, the noise voltage (red line) in one pickup is almost exactly a mirror image of the noise voltage in the other pickup so (drum roll please) ... the hum is cancelled out.

So RWRP produces the same audio output but an inverted noise output. Adding these voltages works like this:

Pickup 1 (+Signal) + (+Noise)
Pickup 2 (+Signal) + (-Noise)

= (Signal + Signal) + (Noise - Noise)

= 2 times signal

In any event, it's a fantastic sounding pickup (though I like the neck and bridge too). Any info at all regarding the X-1 would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, JG

IMO, the X-1 is the father of the old Delta Tone bridge pickup and the current Tex Mex bridge pickup, all about 7.5K ohms. So the idea lived a long time.

I really like the Hot Alnico 3s they run about the perfect hotness.
Problem is the Alnico 3.
They sell the Alnico Magnetized Rod on ebay to replace them.
.187 x .688 Alnico 5 rod magnetized

But remember this can ONLY BE DONE TO A PLASTIC BOBBIN PICKUP.
Insert the magnets in the same polarity direction.

I was hoping you were gone GigleFrank
Probably why no one uses his pickups.

Well if I got anything wrong in my description of how hum cancelling works then I'm sure you'll set us all right.

Seriously though, why did you just delete a load of posts?
