I love my Highway 1 strat. Played spot on for 6 months , now when I bend the high e on the 16th fret it buzzes and then goes silent! DEAD! I know what every one will say "go have it set up". That is a costly adventure! I have always felt comfortable working on my guitars. I have done everything from swap pick-ups to setting intonation. BUT I have never tried to fix a dead fret/string. any suggestions?

Sounds like you're fretting out. Check the neck relief. If that looks ok, then check the string height.

Check to see if one of the frets has lifted slightly, perhaps as a response to changing humidity. There is a neat tool for this, but a steel ruler, edge on, will do.

Also, check your neck relief.

Also... Well, in short, go buy this book, it's a heap cheaper than visiting a tech. Though that is what you will still have to do if the frets need levelling.

Do all of the above, but also check your bridge plate - see if that's straight. I had that problem too, and I straightened my bridgeplate and the problem is agonner!

So you tightened the trem claw until the bridge plate was parallel with the body and that solved the problem described above?

No I adjusted the top two screws on the bridge plate so looking bottom up the bridge was flush with the body, with about a 3 mm gap - just how I like it.
