So here's the scoop... I have a fully loaded 100% stock MIM body that's on the way. Having one other experience with an MIM standard, I can say that I didn't really care for the pickups... they didn't sound very stratty to me in terms of quack, note definition, or clarity. Maybe it was just those pickups, maybe not. I've heard they can vary wildly and am not anti-ceramic. I've heard some terrible alnico pickups and some great ceramic ones.

I want to like these pickups as I don't want to replace them all, but I do have a middle pickup (RWRP) from an American Standard strat in the shop and was wondering what installing that between the two ceramic pickups would do? Might it lend a more quacky 2 & 4 position as well as giving me a stratty position 3 tone as well? Are the outputs going to be terribly mismatched? I think the Am.Std. is around 5.9/6 but am unsure of the MIM output... I guess I can check when it arrives. I know it's possible to mix ceramic and alnico I just don't know if the polarity and output of these three pickups would work together. Are the MIM middle pups RWRP?

Lots of questions, I know, but any thought or your own experiences would be helpful... cheers, JG

Wow, am I getting carried away... being a junky for wiring I think I'm going to add "neck on" and "blower" mini-toggles. I'm still figuring out how to wire up both but it's a good project for a day off!

This one would be a little different than the other two I've wired up... I already have mini toggles on 2 of my 4 strats and love the added versatility (and nerding oout with the soldering gun) :) Where #5 is already a mishmash of parts, I'm not going to ruin the value of it by rewiring it.

*h/s/s #1- neck on and coil tap toggles
*h/s/s #2- coil tap and blaster preamp on/off toggles

I certainly can't see how it would devalue the guitar. As for mixing the pickup types, I go by the "there's only one way to find out" principle :D

I like your sense of adventure! I'll probably try it just to see given that I'm going to be messing around under the hood anyway.I got sucked down the rabbit hole of wiring and did this diagram
on Adobe Illustrator after finding a sad lack of blank wiring templates on-line just in case anybody wants it.
