So I just got back from a week long road trip and picked up my new Am Standard Strat from the shop. The factory set up stunk, so I took a chance on using a new (to me) shop. WA BAM! My guitar plays stinkin' awesome and the guy seems like a real pro, not a hack like I got to experience the last time I had work done.

Anyway - I'm a happy camper :) I'm taking my #1 PRS to him next for some set up work.

Life is good when your guitar feels right...

When you find a right'un, stick to him (or her) like glue.

Sounds like you need to establish a real friendly relationship as a matter of priority. Go to it, sir!

Very Cool! If you have to have someone do the work for you and he/she is a good one. Make sure you stay on their good side.

Don't think I've ever seen a chic working on a guitar before. That's something that'd I like to see. Anybody got any pics of that??? LOL

I don't have any pictures of her, but the lady that bought one of the guitars I sold last year did all of her own work!

You are lucky because it seems extremely random to have someone else set it up the way YOU like it.

Check out the internet resources to learn how to do it yourself. That way 1) you will always have it how you like it, and 2) you will save money.

Happy Playing.

I do some very basic stuff myself but the frets needed attention and the truss rod needed some adjustment - I'm not comfortable tweaking these things. I'm very happy with the quality of the work and his attention to detail, but also the communication. He had my guitar ready when he said it would be and was great about communication.

It's nice to have a sweet playing Strat again :)

I dunno... I'm really thinkin' of running my strat up to the shop for a pro set up - fret level, crown, dress, file the edges, set the action and intonate.

I'm ok with the last two but I don't have the tools or experience to level and dress frets and for sure, I can't afford to screw it up.

When I took my strat for a setup, I got it back rushed, uneven, buzzing and bowed. I complained, got my money back and bought a book that taught me how to do it.

There's an old chinese proverb - Give a man a fish, feed him for a day - Teach a man to fish, feed him for life!
