I won a Strat from the local classic rock station 5 years ago. I never play it and it is a shame someone isn"t enjoying this guitar so I have decided to sell it.

When I picked it up at the radio station, the dude there said it was some kind of "special" Strat and I was a lucky man. Didn't matter to me, I felt lucky just to win.Now that I have decided to sell it, I want to know what I have.

I figured you could go to the Fender site and enter a serial number somewhere and it would tell you what it is, but if that feature is there I can't find it. I am positive it is an American Vintage Series, but not sure if it is the '57 or "59. It is a blueish color with a maple fretboard. As you can tell, I know nothing about Strats.

How can a man like me ID this guitar and its worth? It came with a Fender FM65R amp and a really cool gold colored hard locking case. It probably has 10 or less hours of use on it. I just don't want to get skinned in a deal :)

Thanks for any help you can give and sorry so long-winded.

Jay

I am a 52 yo rookie at these forums. I have a pic the radio station sent me but I cant figure out how to post it.

The FAQ didn't help. I need my 8 yo nephew to help me but he's not around

So, is there not a data base somewhere that can tell by serial number?

This info may be useful:
http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... ct-dating/

or,

Since you suspect it may (or may not?) be something special, you can send the serial number with some comments to:

Email: consumerrelations@fender.com

As for posting pictures...hopefully your 8-year-old will be home soon

Cheers!

Thanks for the info guys...I know now it is an American Vintage made sometime after 1999. Thats more than I knew when I started.

Now to figure out a fair price.

Check the completed listings on Ebay to figure out how large in the infield is then price it accordingly somewhere within the ballpark.

One of 3 possibilities...

It's an American Vintage '57 Stratocaster - GOOD :D

It's an FSR (Factory Special Run) American Vintage '57 Stratocaster - BETTER :D :D

It's an FSR Limited Edition American Vintage '57 Stratocaster - BEST :D :D :D 8)

Retail the MSRP was $1699, $1899, $2399 (of course 'Street Price' was several hundred dollars less on each).

If Guitar Dater Project has the Serial Number, it's an Am Vtg.

If not, it's an FSR or FSR Ltd. Ed.

Great Guitar !

cheers!

You must upload the picture to a publicly accessible website, such as Photobucket. Then copy the "IMG" code and paste it into a post here. Then when you click "Preview" or "Submit", your picture will be visible in your post.

The code (inside the code box) will look similar to this when pasted into your post:

Code:
[URL=http://s974.photobucket.com/user/shimmilou/media/Misc/3stooges.jpg.html][IMG]http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/ae227/shimmilou/Misc/3stooges.jpg[/IMG][/URL]

Clicking Preview or Submit will show the picture.

If you call Fender and give them the serial number they will tell you everything about your guitar.
