...? I think it is just an American Deluxe with a roller nut that only comes in two boring colors.

Am I right or wrong? Can someone confirm this to me?

The JB model shares many of the features of the 1st generation USA Deluxes but the differences are an American 2-point screw-in bridge with stainless steel block saddles and regular white dots on the thick rosewood fretboard.

Colour choices are specified by the artist himself.

Jeff opted for Olympic White and Surf Green. His previous choices were Mystic Black (CS version only), Vintage White, Seafoam Green and Midnight Purple.

Don't forget that the Beck has a deeper neck than the typical American Deluxe and it does not have the compound radius found on recent (2010 or later) American Deluxes either.

...but for the most part, it is an American Deluxe, no? I am about to buy a used one that hasn't been played at all. I have played deluxes and I like them. The Jeff Beck supposely has the same neck as my American Standard Telecaster, so I can live with that. Unless I am wrong about that....

When the guitar was made will bear significantly on the features as the instrument's specs were altered over the years at JB's request. Be sure to play it prior to sale to ensure you're comfortable with all of its nuances.

They have different pickups (at least currently) and the Jeff Beck models don't have the S-1 switch.

Jeff's main stage guitar is actually different as opposed to the regular production and custom shop teambuilt versions in terms of features and specifications.

If you're opting for the same Strat Jeff uses onstage and in the studio, get a masterbuilt JB Custom.

Not sure if the CS could replicate those Suhr pickups. :?

According to Mike Eldred, the Artist series guitars are considered 'snapshots' of the stage guitars. One of the features I remember from the Guitar Player article on him years back was that the vibrato block is balanced so that notes can be easily sharped as well as flatted. Check the archives of Vintage Guitar Magazine for an excellent cover story on Beck. If your looking to dime this guitar to the nines, you'd have to consult the masterbuilders at the Custom Shop to see how close you can get.
As far as the finish is concerned, it is what it is.

I am not so concerned about getting Jeff's "exact" guitar. I want a Strat to add to my collection. Beck is one of my faves, but I play nothing like him. I want an early 90's Jeff Beck Strat because I thought the huge neck was really cool. I played one years ago and I loved it, but never got to buy it. I would by a '91 Jeff Beck right now if I could find one. But in the meantime, an American Deluxe or a Jeff Beck Artist Series will be fine.

That would be the guitar with the Gold Lace Dually's at the bridge, and Lace Sensor Gold's at the middle, and neck, in a wine finish. It was featured in a cover story on him in Guitar Player at that time. I remember playing that guitar too, and hit a line drive out of the store with it. If the guitar you're presently looking at is a player for you, why not just pull the trigger on it, and continue your search for your holy grail? Good luck and keep us posted.

PS: Don't hold your breath, but I expect that Chromeface will have a pic of it for us in due course. 8)

There's no JB Strat in Midnight Wine.

The guitar you're talking about was finished in Midnight Purple; it was manufactured in 1993.

Jeff was seen playing the purple Strat on several occasions - check out Buddy Guy's Mustang Sally official video and the Apollo Theater gig from that year.

The neck of the Midnight Purple '93 is now installed on his white Strat with the JS-designed stack humbuckers.

Wine can be purple.. The wording was chosen for the purpose of being descriptive only. So how about a photograph for us, amigo mio?

Seymour Duncan gets the drop on Jeff Beck. The comment is not intended to be disrespectful but it show's what happens when you think with your balls and not your brain, becoming hot and bothered over that HH Tele, and not recognizing what was being asked of him. At least Duncan was wise enough to put the guitar out to pasture until it could be put to stud.
At the end of the day, I trust that neither Beck nor Duncan are too worse for wear from the experience, in that both guitars have been cloned for 'the folks'.
