The ongoing discussions of mojo, people hearing nuances that others absolutely don't and even whether gold hardware looks good or not reminded me of question that occurred to me one time: What if people don't see the same colors that you see?

In other words, say that you and I see a certain color and both call it "pink." But if you could see it as the same color the way I see it through my eyes, you might say no that's green. But since we've both been brought up to identify that color as "pink" and even learned to accept what colors complement it and contrast it, that's how we think.

Of course, there's no way to know if the pink I see would look green if you saw it through my eyes so there's no way to prove or disprove this theory. Just something an idle thought.

That arguement is at best semantics. At worst, a bit of a non sequitur insofar as there are actual colors. They are not subject to debate or speculation.

They are specific frequencies of electromagnetic energy that lie in the spectrum of electromagnetic radiation which we can see, often referred to as the 'Visible Spectrum'. It is energy with a wavelength that is within the sensitivity of our eyes/brain - approx. 380nm-740nm (nm = nanometers, or 1×10−9 m).

Any philosophical arguement as to whether one person percieves the same 'color' as you is irrelevant. If they do not percieve the proper color, they have a mild disability. Color Blindness, or associated Hue Blindness, are such disabilities.

There are numerous occupations where the ability to properly identify colors is a pre-requisite of the job and those failing to do so are rejected on the basis of not being qualified.

They may in fact not see the proper color. But, in such an instance, they're simply wrong !

No arguement to be made.

Now, if you really wanna blow sombody's mind, tell them that the color they see in an object isn't the actual color of that object.

An Apple is NOT Red ! An Apple absorbs all light energy EXCEPT Red, which is then reflected back to your eyes !

We perceive it as Red, but it's not !

cheers!

There is also one other thing that will change a person's perspective about a color-lighting.

Person lives in a building with overhead light (The Joe vs. the Volcano) and believes that the color of his guiter is sonic blue or en. Then sends the guitar his friend, who lives in a house with yellow leghting, and says, "This guitar isn't sonic blue, it's surf green.

Who is right? They both have eyes that work just fine, but because of lighting...

Also your brain might say, "dark moss," but your eyes see "dark brown." It's all in your head.

Back in time, before the 60s, there was only black and white, no color. At least that's what I gather from watching old movies.

Completely off the topic, which of your Les Pauls do you like more, or are they both great for different things?

The best Les Paul I've ever played was Old Gold Top with P-90s. There was just something about the tone and the neck was wonderful.

Interestingly enough, I've been play my home built Tele the most of the time. It's kind of become my current favorite guitar. I just jammed with a bunk of people last month and the sustain I was able to get from a Zac Wylde OD pedal, Line6 Echo Park, Chorus pedal and compression was amazing.

The only other time I've had that much sustain was with my Clapton Strat and Big Muff Pi.

I think the Signature T is the best deal going right now and you would love the versatility.

Here is my current favorite: http://www.shutterfly.com/lightbox/view ... 9dbf2f35f7
It's a mix of Fender, Allparts, and S. Duncan. After Burner pre-amp, 5-way switch, and mid-range scoop tone knob. Some interesting tones:
Classic Andy Summers, Police
Eric Clapton Blind Faith
Heavy Metal
Eric Clapton Cream era
Funk
Fishman-like pickup
Rockin' country.
Eric Clapton '70s era (yes there is a trend)

For complete tone discloser, you can't get:
A good Strat neck pup. It's a nice single neck tone, but it's no Strat, more like regular Tele neck pup. If I got a strait up Strat neck tone, I'd never play another guitar.

actually there are in fact NO such thing as colors. There are only wavelengths of light. Your eyes have 3 different types of nerves called 'cones' that sense wavelengths. Different wavelengths fire these cones differently. Color is a sensation in your brain to sort the wavelengths, it doesn't exist in the natural world. This sensation of colored sight is shared by all creatures with these cones, though the degree of color separation varies greatly (fish birds and reptiles have 4 cones, and see into the IR and UV spectra, so they have a wider range of visible light, some see less than us, and perception even varies from person to person--see color blindness as an extreme example.)

Ah! I was wondering why you weren't pictured with your Clapton.

Yes and it is called subjectivity and objectivity. Ask a blind man how important a guitar color is for him. But don´t be surprised if he has a favourite one or he says as long as it is not pink I go for it.
Tell a player he sounds great and he plays better. If he think his sound is great he plays even better.
Music is emotions and emotions are subjectiv and that´s a very good thing.
Take two people hearing Justin Bieber both are crying for different reasons xD.

All the best,
Robin
