Just saw this beautiful HM Strat Ultra listed on ebay. Made from '90-'92, Ultra configuration Pups & Kahler Tremolo Bridge in the "Unmentionable" finish.

Just for the record: I am not a troll, do not have a secret identity and don't want to stir the pot. It is pretty unique! :D

Never saw this rare bird.

JOHN C, XHEFRI! WE NEED YOUR HELP!

@danagos

You're not trolling, mate.

This guitar is indeed a very rare piece and perhaps one of the oddest HM Ultras Fender ever did.

My advice is to send a PM to John C and Xhefri regarding the firestorm HM Ultra. Even myself ignored the existence of those odd-looking Fenders.

Fender should still make these, they were awesome.

In my travels I've only come across one HM Ultra and it was a tobacco burst flame veneer top one - it was at Akron Music when they still had a downtown location near where I was working so it had to be sometime between say October 1991 and February 1992 (when they shut down that store and opened a "superstore" in the suburbs). These are incredibly rare birds from Fender - I think they were only made for one year which was also the final year for the HM series.

This is the first time I've seen a photo of one in that unnamed finish.

That seller seems to have a stash pf HM Strats for sale. I guess he/she thought they would be future classics and bought them in bulk!

More of an "interesting" Strat than a "highly sought after" Strat. Fender are at their best when they make Fender guitars, not copies of Charvels and Jacksons.

Maybe its Greg Howe LOL!
That's exactly right the Charvel and Jackson had killed Fender And Gibson at the time.
So both of them started trying to compete.
I worked at a music shop in the repair dept at the time.
I remember this line because I always was a Fender guy.
Jackson was a trend guitar at the time.

Contour heel, the rear contour in the cutaways, serial number at heel of neck and the neck itself all scream MIJ. I'm thinking this is partly made in Japan and rest is shipped to USA for completion.

My Heartfield has very similar inlays and shape in the upper fretboard. Also back contouring too.

The HM ultra must have been made prior to when Fender had exclusive distributer rights to Floyd Rose.

Rare, but not worth the asking price IMHO.

The Talons employed the same radical shape for which the RGs are famous.

Headstock is very similar to that of Buddy Blaze's Shredders.

The HM Strat's remind me of an old Westone Pantera X275 I owned a few years ago. I think it was an '86, definitely made in Japan, mfg. by Matsumoku and very well built.

I had owned just about all the interesting models (to me) from the Electra/Westone lines by then. I remember thinking "I should just start over with Fender Strats".

Which, of course, I have. :D

So, I HAVE TO ask...

Why is the firestorm? finish unmentionable??

...and why was there a seemingly negative response to it being brought up?

Inquiring minds want to know...

I think because the Firestorm God warned that they will be banished from the kingdom forever. they're name removed from the book of Lifesavers.
They shalt be stricken with a plague of zits and cast in the sea of holes.

Or something terrible along these lines...

But seriously they had a flame war I take it, I don't know why cuz the finish is lame I think.
I hate red and I would paint it black for sure.
Anyway I think its like a 12 year old that can insult us way better then we can them.
Being the big mature people we are, a bunch of 20, 30 , 40 ,50 plus year olds,
We all pounce on them, (myself included :)) until they get deleted.
Because when you break it down we are all just a bunch a big kids coming here to brag about our toys I guess...
