I'm sort of half ways considering building a Strat-Partsocaster. Never built one before and thought it might be fun. It'll prolly be pricey cuz you know me, I never do anything half way (except maybe the considering part .. ) but I think it would be fun to try. Still in the tossing-ideas-around stage. I know. I know. I promised to build an amp and I still haven't started that but a man can dream, can't he? If I do this it won't be to build something I could just buy off the rack. It would be to build something you don't see every day. There would be a unique body and some cool, yet to be determined features. Here are my thoughts so far on what might be an interesting and out-of-the-ordinary configuration.

Pups - HSH
Typical Vol-Tone-Tone pots config
Pup selector config as follows:
1 - bridge only, both coils
2 - inside bridge coil + middle (RWRP) for quack
3 - coil tap bridge + coil tap neck ... for that Tele-like sound
4 - inside neck coil + middle (RWRP)
5 - neck only, both coils

I dunno ... maybe this has already been done before in the shredder world. I don't really know much about those other brands. I'm more of a Fender dude. There are certainly a lot of HSH guitars out there in the non-Fender universe. If this config has already been brought to market I may rethink the plan and try to come up with something else .... or not. Still pondering. If anyone knows of a wiring diagram for this config please feel free to post a link. I'd also be interested in reading comments on what other features might help establish that unique one-off vibe. I've already thought of a chambered body with an unusual wood selection for the top. Maybe Lacewood or Cocobolo.

My goal here would be to build a kick-ass hard rockin' Strat that could still surprize everyone with it's ability to quack like a regular Strat and also get a both-pups Tele tone.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Have a look through some of the owner's manuals - there are plenty of ideas for wiring diagrams to be had.
