This excerpt from a representative from Fender about Heartfield guitars, however goes into detail about the reasons why the switch to USA assembly and the demise of the MIJ lineup in the 90's being sold in USA

Be sure to click on 'background' on the righthand side

These are from internal fender documents.

There is a lot of misconception about the switch from Japan to USA- though not directly related to Strats, this does give insight.

Thanks that was very cool read.
I think they go a little to far on the tradition excuse not giving us USA Floyd Rose Models.

I know this is an old thread and I have not read it all, but Fender has on their serial number page this info: " I(XXXXXXX) A limited number of these "I" series guitars were made in '89 and '90. They were made for the export market and have Made in USA stamped on the heel of the neck."

this was taken from their serial number page on the Fender website and I have the info posted on my website as well.

So what constitutes 'made in USA'? This is a serious question here- can a guitar be assembled in USA from international sourced parts and be labeled 'Made in USA'?

I know some guitars were made in Japan and finished & assembled in USA as the Japanese factories were struggling to sell higher priced models in the USA in the 90's due to a weak USA currency.

These models weren't labeled made in Japan and some didn't even have any label stating the origin they were made

Fender Heartfield range were a perfect example of this- yet they are still made (not the Talon models) today under the Fujigen 'FGN' brand to a very high standard
