How do you get a heavy metal sound from a Fender Standard Stratocaster with Single coil pickups(No Humbucks Pickups)? Is it mandatory to have Humbuck pickups for heavy metal? Also is there a certain amp that I need to have and is it true that your pickups can heat up while you play?

Metal on a Strat.....easy. Metal on a ukulele....now that's something!

Yeah, what's up with this?

I own a Hwy 1 (SSS), and found that if I turn the tone knob down to about 4, use the DS1 distortion pedal or my Zack Wyld OD pedal, and some compression, I can get great Heavy Metal tones.

More than anything else, darken your tone. You can also turn your mids up on the amp.

There's a better option, use a high-quality digital FX floor unit (the GNX3000 from Digitech, for example) having factory presets for metal tones.

I think only humbuckers will heat up while you play.

Triple humbucker setup in a Strat plus a Floyd Rose tremolo: the ultimate metal axe!

Check this out from 1981.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdbBzspys00 the best bit starts at 2.48 into the video.

The guitarist is Bernie Torme who is using a vintage 1962 strat with stock-pickups into a Marshall stack. No Floyd Rose, no-modern technical wizardry, just a few basic effects and Bernie's skill. Amazing

Yahoo! Thanks for the Gillan. Great old stuff there.

So Marshalls are the secret!
