I'm looking for assistance to ID this strat.

I'm not sure if it is genuine or not as I can't find a serial number on it anywhere obvious, and I don't want to have to de-string and remove the neck just to find out. I've removed the rear cover and the jack cover, nothing under either of those.

A few things I've noted;

Negatives-
The head doesn't have the classic shape
There's no branding anywhere on it other than the head

Positives-
The body is VERY lightweight
The action is good
Neck isn't bent and the quality of the wood looks great
Seems well 'put together' not like my old 'encore' copy.
Generally in good condition.

Can anyone shed any light on this one?

Thanks, Dave.

It's not a Strat.

+1

Certainly a fake, no doubt about that.

Thanks for that zoom in, MM.
Do you think it left (whatever) factory like that?
The guitar almost looks like a Squier that's been hack-sawed and re-logoed.

Ok, well thank you for the analysis guys, I had feared it was a fake and took that into account when buying it.

Fortunately I only paid £33 for it (about $50) so it's not a catastrophic loss.

On close inspection it doesn't look like the neck has been removed or anything, it all mates up ok and the screws aren't chewed up, so I think it did come out of the factory/shed like this.

I'll have a go at playing it sometime in the future, just not at the moment, my amp isn't very well (Old frontman M-80, same as this one) so I need to fix that first.

Dave.

It may sound fine for you even if not a real Strat.

I'm guessing a Strat clone (Turser, Memphis, etc) that someone swapped out the decal on.

Dave I started with worse gear than that, still have an M-80 combo and Samick SG copy with a glued lengthwise fracture in the neck.

Get yer feet wet and move up to better equipment when you can. Who knows you may develop a great style and have Fender offer to make a davegsm82 Custom Strat! :D

Play the ding-dong-dangle out of it!

Haha, thanks for the advice guys.

I doubt I'll ever be any good to be fair, I used to 'play' in a band with a couple of friends, but... well, we sucked to be honest. I was never very good and ended up getting frustrated after a few years, at which point my old strat copy and my acoustic became ornaments.

Who knows though, maybe one day.

Dave.
