I have a Japanese Stratocaster, 25 years old, with 2 seymour Duncan pick ups and a Quarter Pounder at the bridge. I am having trouble getting a good rounded sound, at the minute it is very bright and too trebly. I am using a Sundown Artist 100w combo. If I used an Equalizer pedal would this help.

How do you have the EQ set on the Amp? And what are the pot values of the Strat's volume and tone controls?

Sorry, I am not that technical. No EQ on amp but using very little treble, a lot of middle and bass, still very trebly.

If you play a Humbucker equipped guitar now, the Strat will sound bright. Turn the mids down on the amp. Turn the tone pots on the guitar down to 5 or 6 to start with. Strats do have a lot of treble, that's what makes them a Strat.

It is all dependent on what your used to hearing, humbuckers or single coils. If you play the single coils for a week straight it will sound better as your hearing gets used to it. Then your HB guitars will sound muddy. Try it. You'll see.

Would love to see pics of that Strat. :D

I agree with SNick's comments. Good luck.

» Can I post images?
Yes, images can be shown in your posts. If the administrator has allowed attachments, you may be able to upload the image to the board. Otherwise, you must link to an image stored on a publicly accessible web server, e.g. http://www.example.com/my-picture.gif. You cannot link to pictures stored on your own PC (unless it is a publicly accessible server) nor images stored behind authentication mechanisms, e.g. hotmail or yahoo mailboxes, password protected sites, etc. To display the image use the BBCode [img] tag.

I use photobucket some use flickr to store photo's on a publicly shared server. Other's are available. Then link to the pic.

I had a 2007 Am Deluxe ash strat that i returned for that reason.... it a was too harsh and glassy, even with the - dull-SCN's that came with it. EQing it made no real difference.

It could be anything at this point, body, pickups, pots, caps, amp....Try to isolate the issue, if its the electronics, just replace the entire pick-guard with another custom loaded pick-guard wit 250k pots and keep the original if you decide to sell it sometime. That's what i would do to keep the value of the guitar intact.

I've seem people put 500k pots on strats, that some guitars definitely don't take well.

Something else to try is adjusting the height of the pickups. Go to the S.D. Site to find the starting point for the height adjustments. Then just adjust to taste.
Good luck.
