I visited two different sites that show that Jeff Beck uses American Standard wiring.
I can see that from the Fender Service Diagrams database.
But each site claims he uses something different for a capacitor.
One site states he uses orange drops the other says he uses a black cat PIO.
So which one is it?

I'm sure that he has more than one guitar.

Each of these claims to be Jeff Becks personal set up

Jeff favors 1 strat he doesn't even use the Fender Pickups he uses Suhr

He also has a basswood body as he broke his original body.

He has 7 other duplicates that he doesn't want much to do with he prefers the one.

I been looking at Jeff Beck strats today I signed up to win and I been thinking about my next strat what I would want.
Anyway I know the factory one comes with standard wiring and standard caps then saw these advertised and wondered what he really used if anyone knew.

I'll doubt we will ever know. Maybe you can PM Mike Eldred and possibly get an answer, since his guitars are from the custom shop. In addition, since the guitar is in a passive circuit, you're not going to tell the difference between the caps. The difference is so minute that it wouldn't be much difference. I've used Hovlands, a high end $15 cap in the past, and my Radio Shack $1.50 caps perform just as well. Orange drops are great stuff, IMHO.

I tend to believe that he is running orange drops because they are associated with fast lead playing.

Jeff Beck doesn't need no stinking capacitors. His tone is in his fingers.

The pickups Jeff uses on his personal guitar are custom-wound Fender stacked humbuckers designed by John himself during his Custom Shop days in the early-to-mid 1990s.

The guitar in question sports a fat baseball bat neck from a Midnight Purple '93 and the old Wilkinson Roller Nut.

Donnie, Jeff uses the noiseless pickups that were custom made for him in the Fender Custom Shop in the 1990's. The custom shop guy that made them were John Suhr. These may be prototype models that are different than the production models. Another way of getting this information is seeing anybody would forward a picture of a 1990's Jeff Beck Custom Shop wiring harness. As a reminder, Jeff works on his guitars too and could have swapped out the caps. With all that touring, I'm certain the pots and caps got swapped out over time.

Thanks guys this makes a lot of sense. I went to the Suhr website and they didn't even have stacked humbuckers so I was wondering if they were just custom jobs.

I got like 2 more payments on the trans black les paul then I was thinking bout a jeff beck strat. I just wondered how close it was to his real one.
Hopefully Zzounds keeps the 12 payment thing a while. :)

We've run this track several times over the past years, most recently following a Vintage Guitar mag extensive article on Jeff. Mike Eldred even chimed in that there was an error in the VG article, in that, in his desk, he had a set of the pups that Suhr built.

I sometimes wonder at the passion with which we carry out these gear pursuits in the quest for tone. These guys can change gear faster than an OCD changes underwear. It's a never ending story.

Quite true. If you watch Beck carefully you come realize that he has carefully developed a subtle equilbrium between his technique, his instrument, his signal chain, and his amp. It doesn't take more than the slightest touch for him to generate a tone. The same holds true for Billy Gibbons. Anyone who's played very very light gauge strings knows this. You're not going to whack on those things. They'll never survive. But in his hands, with his gear, they're perfect.

+1

So, sometimes if it seems that there are several different contradicting stories, they all could be true.

I read somewhere that JB in particular tries to find out what is popular, or what his fans like most about his music, and then deliberately goes in a completely different direction.

I've been of the opinion that many artists do this with their gear.
