So what is the difference? The ash one produces a different sound than the Alder? If so then this is an absolute crap ..

Mr. Tesla, what is your point?

It's a nice video. I'm not sure I can hear the difference in the guitars' bodies because I think I can detect some differences in picking attack and picking position. Even with that, the sounds are very similar to me.

Exactly.
What is the difference in Ash and Alder body in the first place?
If it doesn't affect the performance/sound of a guitar (and it doesn't), what is the significance in having one or the other?

(Nice video, I agree :D )

My Strats are about half and half ash and alder. I never think about it when I grab a guitar to play.

I do think about whether I want a single coil guitar or a humbucker guitar.

And again, and again, and again. We have covered this topic many times already. Try a search before starting this yet again.

I only like ash on guitars when you can see the grain as for tone I see no difference

For me, the difference is obvious. Ash gives a brighter attack and a strong sound. Alder is smoother in frequency.

What makes you think ash or alder are responsible for the attack, strong sound and smoother frequency?!

Wood variations have a minimal impact on the overall sound of an electric guitar.

I made this comparison especially to understand the difference between ash and alder. In all other respects, these guitars are the same (including adjustments)

Usually, not always but usually, the main difference that the average person might notice is the available colours. Typically painted guitars have alder bodies and guitars with a transparent or tranlucent finish have ash bodies. As Shimi alluded to the alder vs. ash issue is the subject of heated debate and is usually a fruitless excercise since neither side of the debate seems to ever be persuaded to see the other side's point of view. Same goes for the rosewood/maple debate. For most people if there is any difference in tone it will be minimal at best. Choose which ever looks best to you bearing in mind that sometimes two guitars equipped with identical specifications will still sound and behave differently. Those differences are not as pronounced nowadays as they once were due to the benefits of CNC machining but you do sometimes encounter variations in tone and behavior from one guitar to the next even though they should be the same according to the spec sheet.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

+1

Worth noting also- the only reason why ash was introduced was to have an enhanced wood grain with sunburst finishes. Not because of tone. The same applies for the durability of rosewood over maple fingerboards. Any tone differences are minimal and purely coincidental.

It's all hype to make us all pay premiums for 'select' woods also. Pickups translate string vibration- not resonance.

:)
