Any instrument needs to be dropped once, preferably right away...just to get it over with.

I remember when I got my Strat, the first practice we had I tripped over the instrument cable and the guitar fell flat on its face.....then when I went to pick it up I swung it around and slammed the back of the neck on the mic stand......I can laugh about now but when it happened I was so frustrated. Needles to say, I agree, the sooner you get that first "ding" out of the way the better. It relieves all the pressure of not having to handle it with white gloves, sort of speak. And now I can honestly say that all though i continue to handle it with care, I'm also not opposed to and look forward to the natural and unavoidable wear that will accumulate throughout the years.

Got my Strat. The new MIJ one and it's a beauty. Vintage white was always my preferred choice and when I summarised all the pros and cons, it came out the winner. It was still pretty hard to choose though and I had strong impulses to buy at least two of them! Calm down Paul, this is just your first Strat, there will be many more. :)

Ended up paying him $550 which I thought was a good price. I bought an Avid Eleven Rack, hooked it up to my audio system and have been in guitar heaven since. As for recording, luckily, I have a friend who works at Avid and is a ProTools guru. I am going to need his help after spending a short time staring at ProTools on my computer. I'm going to drag out my Kurzweil K2000 from the wardrobe and hook that up to the Eleven Rack too.

Look out world!

Thanks to all those who responded and offered advice, very much appreciated. I uploaded some pics here: https://plus.google.com/photos/10587940 ... eSfq4WxgQE

Cheers

Paul
