I bought a Fender Deluxe Player's Stratocaster in Red Crimson Transparent and a Rosewood Fretboard at Guitar Center. The first time they sent it to me, it came with scratches on the pickguard, on the fretboard, and the tuners were all worn out. I sent it back to the store and they sent me a new one. This time the tuners seem fine, but it has scratches on the pickguard and one on the fretboard. Also, it has come both times with a stamp on the pickguard, this makes me think both guitars have been exhibited on a store or used or something, though I have been told both times, by Guitar Center representatives, that they are brand new guitars. My question is, do new guitars come with stamps and scratches, or do I return it to the store again? I mean, maybe they do come with stamps and that doesn't necessarily mean they have been exhibition guitars, and maybe it's a common thing that the pickguards get scratched before being assembled to the rest of the guitar, because the bodies of both guitars I bought, had no scratches at all.

I hope you can help me, it is the first time I buy a guitar.

Thanks.

Ummm, did you bother to peal off the plastic film that is applied to ALL new Fender guitar pick guards?

Stamps?

Do you mean stickers on the protective plastic film?

It's the scratches on the fretboard that worry me - that doesn't sound good at all. If you could post some photos, people might have some suggestions.

But yeah - the pickguard has a transparent, removable film on it that features Fender logos, etc.

Pics would surely help...but sometimes GC will sell you a guitar as new, but it was actually a floor model. They usually sell these at a discount or as closeouts. It would also help if we knew what you paid, if you got a really good price, that may be why it has a few scratches.

FWIW

I think that says it all. If you paid full price for a new guitar, you should get a NEW guitar.

If you have questions about it they should be answered patiently and completely.

The Stamps do sound like decals on the protective plastic. The scratches on the pickguard and fretboard sound wrong, as in shouldn't be there, but if you want opinions on that you need to take pictures and post them here. Then you can return to the store with some ammunition.

If you need advice on posting pictures, just ask.

Sorry, I don't mean to sound so brusque but conniving salesmen/managers/owners who take advantage of their customers really push my anger buttons.

I bought mine used at GC, no scratches, or stamps anywhere.

If you post some pics of your guitar it would help folks understand what you are referring to
