No I would say it is more common on a guitar that needs a good setup.

Don't mean to sound flippant but that's how I see it.

Is it common, not really. Where does it buzz, near the nut or the bridge? Have you tried to adjust anything? If so what did you do. To your knowledge, has the guitar been setup by a real professional.

We can help depending on your answers.

Sounds like you need a good setup, but I do think that build quality and factory set up on the specials isn't quite as good on the standards.

I do think the specials are great guitars with quality components for a lot less than a standard.

I did have to put more work into the set up of the one special I've owned (and shim the neck to get the action down) compared to the three standards I've had.

Did I mind spending a little extra time getting the set up right, considering the price not one bit.

I do think that with Fender the more you spend the better the set up, I've had some Mexicans that were pigs to set up and custom shops are almost perfect ever time.

The buzz was on the B string on a Special that I played in a Guitar Center. It's definitely true that this guitar needed a setup...But I some saw chat regarding the American SPECIALS that made me wonder if string buzz was more common with them than the American STANDARDS.....Thanks for the input- I agree on getting a proper setup and will always pay the extra money to have it done...........
