hi, I want to change my s-1 switch from 250k to 500k, but only find a 500k which belongs Telecaster, P-Bass, and Jazz Bass...Works properly with the stratocaster?

There are couple of varieties so make sure the one you get can fit the strat knobset.
Take a few clear photos of the wiring before you start so if you have problems you can get back to the original wiring.
Have not come across the tele version so am not 100% sure of the switch function so maybe someone else can help out there but I would expect it to be mechanically the same..
I know it is not the total answer but hope it helps a little.
:D

Hi rmix: don't know if it helps, but here's a pic of the 500k S1 pot on my HSS Strat:

To the best of my knowledge the only alternatives on the 500k S1 pots are a choice of solid or split shaft. So it depends which sort of knob the Tele has as to whether it would be compatible with a Strat S1 knob or not. I wonder if the Tele S1 knob fits a solid shaft, within which case it wouldn't work.

Cheers - C

EDIT: oh, and it turns out you can also buy the split shaft 500k S1 pot for Strat here on Fender's own website:

http://www.fender.com/en-GB/guitar-bass ... lit-shaft/

Sorted! :)

Hi Ceri ;)

However I could get split shaft in france (I'm from Portugal and in Europe is very very difficult to get a s-1 split shaft 500k, I was lucky to find for sale in france!)
One question, you use some resistance in singles pickups, for them to stay in the 250k volume pot? They sound good in pot 500k?

;)

Ha, you're right. I've done a bit of searching and found every S-1 component available our side of the Atlantic except the 500k split shaft. How strange.

Still, if you've found one then no matter. Alternatively, it's a standard Fender replacement part and can be ordered from any authorised Fender dealer, even if they don't have it in stock. Or I'm seeing them on Ebay, with reasonably priced international postage.

Regarding the caps and resistors and such, I'm not the best person to talk to about that. Still, you can see how Fender have wired it in my photo and I can say that both single-coils and humbucker sound good on my HSS guitar.

Cheers - C

I opted to buy in france, because I gets cheaper the postage to Portugal, however I swapped the humbucker for a bare knuckles vhii and I have found a muffled sound coming from him (which I think is the s-1 volume pot 250k)

Thank you for everything ;)

Sorry, I'm a bit late on this one....

You don't need to buy a new S-1 switch. You can swap out the 250k carbon trace for a 500k, as shown below.
