Sorry, no photos yet but I've been playing mine all day... I really like it.. not that I'm that good at pulling it off (yet), bet seems to nail the Hendrix nicely with a VOX wah and a Fender Cyber Deluxe amp.

Dude.....the more I see and hear about your rig, the less I empathize with your Gilmour wish.

Suppose YOU design the guitar Dave wishes HE had.

Best.

Who is Dave? Oh - perhaps you didn't like my instant gratification "poor mans" DG strat combo with a 57 hot rod in red and the EMG-DG20 drop in loaded pickguard?

Sorry if I upset you - not really sure what you mean about me designing Daves guitar for him? Why would I want to do that? I'd have 1,000 designs I'd do for myself first.

Oh - So as an electric guitarist, I'm only allowed one sound?... is that it? ... or do I misunderstand you?

I have many amps, guitars and effects... not sure what you saying?

No offense meant or taken. I recognize great versatility in your collection. You need not bemoan the affordability of that guitar. (Put the shoe on the other foot. Design a guitar HE'D want to own.) We put too much emphasis on these tribute instruments, and the company makes hay while the sun shines.

As for the DG-20, been there, done that, myself. Recommend it to anyone looking for that sound.

Always look forward to you input.

Hey Doc... sorry for my misread... My only reservation is that the strat I'm thinking about dropping the DG-20 in is ash... DGs' is alder IIRC... I've also read a review or two that had the DG-20 as a tad shrill or toppy?

What are your thoughts in regards to above?

Search my previous posts to find the one's concerning the DG-20. That will eliminate a lot of rewrite. If you log into 'Gilmourish'I believe you'll find a reference to the DG-20 as the way to go for a start towards that tone.

If you've ever seen Dave's live rig you'll understand when I say that you might as well try to turn lead into gold as to recapture that tone through most commercically available gear at reasonable cost. Same for Alex Lifeson and the lot. Reading the article on him in Guitar Player this winter, it just blew me away to learn what these guys were using on stage, and in the studio while here we are trying to cop that tone. I don't argue that it can be fun in the attempt, but one has to be realistic.

Ash seems to be used more where the grain is important to the final finish because selected ash can give a lovely result. If one is going to paint a guitar a solid color, alder is probably the way to go.

If my prior commentaries have not answered all of your questions regarding that powerplant, get back to me via this response.

Ah-ha! I'd always taken that view, and thought that much (not all) of the time Fender tended to agree. I got flatly contradicted on it on another thread a while back, but now I feel I have the principle on good authority.

Thanks, Doc

You'll find ash indicated for natural finish instruments and others where the stain would enhance the wood. For example: the Sienna Sunburst finish on the new American Standard, and the American Deluxe Ash finishes. You'll also pay $100 for the privilege.

Fender switched from ash to alder in the late fifties for this very reason.
It took solid colour paint very well with minimal preparation and little effort.
Ash requires grain filling and all kinds of mucking about before you shoot it with anything ;^).

One of my own favourite Strats is sort of a home brew JV. An early production MIM standard from 1990, modded with Tex Mex pups, Gotoh vintage bridge and tuners and USA electrics. [left the tone circuit stock though].
This one has a poplar body, which I believe is a very underated Fender tone wood. A nice piece can combine the warmth of alder with a little of the swamp ash "pop and bounce". I always loved the feel and natural resonance of this particulat low cost Strat, which is genuinely one of the nicest I've ever owned.
[I believe many of the early JVs were also poplar...if memory serves]
