Hehe, sorry. I've seen so many "identify my guitar" threads, and I was bored.

That was pretty funny.

By the way, I see that you have a couple of Gibsons. which do you prefer, the HBs or the P-90s, and why?

P-90s for sure.
Why? Hmmm, I'm not sure I can answer that question objectively, but I have fallen for the tone in a big way. I can say I prefer single coils over HBs, and there is no real answer for that either. My guess is that I tend towards more classic rock and blues than to the modern high gain stuff. Note the amps I'm using most at the moment. Fender for clean bluesy stuff, Vox for annoying neighbours with overdrive, etc.

Here's a story...

I don't even like SGs. Some kind of irrational hatred for the body styling. But I've had the "inspired by John Lennon" Epiphone Casino for a while now, and I just love it. I wanted to get a solid body with P-90s (I did have a nice Tokai LP with P-90 copies, which I sadly sold) and I went looking seriously for a LP gold top... It turned out to be a fruitless search. All the guitars I tried weren't up to it, and didn't connect with me.

One day, I went to the city (I live at the moment in the middle of nowhere, 400+ miles from the most isolated city in the world, Perth, Australia.) cashed up , GASsed up, and ready to get a P-90 solid body. No luck... I tried every guitar in every store, and I was at the last store (the biggest), and I couldn't find what I was after. The only guitar left was this SG (yecchhh). An old friend happened to walk in, and convinced me to try all the guitars again. He took the SG off the wall, along with the others. I wasn't enthused, until I played it... and it was amazing! Pete Townshend model. Not the look I wanted in any way, but the playability and attitude are undeniable!

I LOVE my Tele (Am Dlx) sooo much. And I love my Strat (Am Std), but all my guitars are special, and P-90s are a weakness of mine.

Hope you enjoyed my essay!

I have to agree that I agree with your choice. I think that the P-90s do sound better than the current HBs, which to my ear sound to mid-rangy or dark. I've always loved the sound of a Gold Top Les Paul.

I've owned 3 Les Pauls and sold them all. I traded my last, a '04 Les Paul Std, for a PRS McCarty Model 10 top. I also has an Andy Summers inspired Tele with a Seymore Duncan Jazz pup in the neck.

This got me wondering, "Why do I love the pups in these guitars, and not the Les Pauls?"
The answer, the tone is smoother, less dark and a bit cleaner sounding.

I've been pretty much a Strat player for the past 20 years, but I've to say, I really dig my Tele. It's very versitile and great for any kind of music.

My influences have been Andy Summers, Clapton, Freddy King, Albert King, Buddy Guy, SRV, B.B. King, Hubert Sumerlin and Stacey Mitchheart. There are others, but these are big one, in order of importants. Oddly enough I got meet both Robert Cray, Stacey Mitchheart and Buddy Guy.

Thanks for telling me your story.
