Hi everyone. I just have this situation that i can't really understand right now. I have a 1999 American standard stratocaster which I bough in ebay for 850usd last August 2013, I also have my oldie 1995 mexican stratocaster. When i tested my new American strat and compare the sound and feel of each guitar my mexican strat has better sound and feel. It was like the responsiveness how i pick and the sound is way much better that my new american strat.

I need your help guys to solve the question in my head that really bothers me that i want to sell my american strat or i am thinking of removing my mexican pickups and place them in my american standard strat.

Please see the pictures below to have a better picture of the actual pickups of both. refer to their label. Can you help my to have clear toughs of this situation and how my mexican strat is better sounding than my american standard strat.

Thank you.

Hi lotjrsula,

You don't have a problem, you have a preference. The mid '90s Standards are very nice, and to each his own, so enjoy. :)

Those are 90's Fender American Pickups. So all is right. You may need to adjust the pickup heights until it sounds better to your ears. Or, it could be your combination of amp, pedals, cables, and guitar. Some combinations work together well, others just don't.

Hi Snick,

Thank you for the info.

Question regarding the pickup in my mexican strat, how come they don't have back covers like the american standard pickups?

Really i compare both guitars and the responsiveness of mexican strat is much way more better. When you pick each string its just they react and sound very good specially on the neck pickup of my mexican strat, while american standard has less tight low end.

I forgot to mention I am not using any effects pedals i plugged directly to my amp which is a fender mustang III.

Thanks.

The MiM Pickups have two ceramic magnets that the round steel pole pieces are surrounded by. The Ceramic magnets cause a pickup to have a different tone. A brighter fuller type of tone. The MIA Pickups use a composite magnetic material called Alnico and are formed in a round shape that becomes the pole piece itself.

Differences in the magnetic material and wire used to wind around the magnets, or steel pole pieces, create the different tonal responses that you hear between the two types of pickups.

Alnico pickups have a softer smoother tonal response and are not as loud or bright as the ceramic pickups. Your not alone in your liking the tone of the MiM pickups, a lot of players like them. As far as the tone of your guitar goes it's whatever you like, not what someone tells you is better.

Have you had the American Standard set up?

A pro set up should make the guitar play and sound a whole lot better.

If you feel up to it you could do the set up your self following the guidlines on Fenders website.

You can only really compare the two once you have them set up the way you like them.

If when you have them both set up you still haven't bonded with the American Standard you could then think about changing the pick ups to some thing that you like more.
