I have recently been offered the chance to buy a 2010 Deluxe in Tobacco burst. Very clean, but too far away for me to try out. However, whilst I like my firestorm ultra, I'm concerned that I'll be 'moving down' rather than 'up'. The deluxe has an ash body compared to my current strat.

Has anyone had a chance to try both?

Opinions welcome.

Cheers

Very first post and it's about a Firestorm guitar.
Huh.
Who woulda thunk something like that was even possible?

Hi Epoxy. For a long time now we've had a very persistant troll here who is fixated on the Firestorm finish. He's drearily tiresome and it leads to people being a bit wary of any mention of that finish.

If that guy is not you then welcome to the Forum, stick around and enjoy.

If you are that guy then... so long.

Far as choosing between the guitars in question goes, I'd be thinking about the features rather than the finish.

Cheers - C

Epoxy, If you are not the troll who has been plaguing us forever then you should be aware that Firestorms are forbidden topics around here. It is an unofficial and unwritten rule. It is not forbidden by the board rules or by Fender. It is forbidden by the board members at a grass roots level. It doesn't matter if anyone thinks it's fair. It's just the way it is. If you are not that troll then you will be able to become a regular member in good standing and begin posting on this board on a variety of topics as long as the Firestorm finish is never once mentioned.

Not.

One.

Single.

Time.

Your response to my comments here as well as your level of compliance with the requirement I have just laid out for you will be closely examined with a fine toothed comb by me and also by the other members of this board who are watching silently in the background right this very second. Please understand that there is no room for debate on this subject. Any argument from you on this will very likely result in your being badgered by the group until one of two things happens. 1) You leave voluntarily or 2) You are kicked out by management.

I am leaving you with one question which I am obligating you to answer. That question is:

"Can you become a member of this board and never once for the rest of eternity even so much as mention a Firestorm finish or a Firestorm guitar or any other use of the word Firestorm?"

The only possible answers available to you are "Yes" or "No".

If your answer is yes and you prove to us that you are not a troll and that you wish to become a valued member here then you will have a long and enjoyable and informative stay here. If your answer is No or if you try to question the conditions I have just spelled out for you then I forsee a very short future here for you.

The choice is yours.

I'd stay with the firestorm ultra

Speaking from experience of course, the ultra is one hell of a guitar. I also have a deluxe and I would say that I would keep my Ultra to the bitter end and would sell the deluxe if I had to.

Just my opinion. Let's us not flame this thread- (mind that pun)

BMW-KTM, if you are right about who you suspect Epoxy to be then I applaud your remarks with a grin.

On the other hand, if Epoxy is just a regular guy looking to join a forum to chat about guitars, which after all would be entirely reasonable, then I can completely understand how right now he's scratching his head and wondering what weirdness he's stumbled into. Nothing so far on this thread is going to make any sense to him at all - poor bugger!

The next bit also may or may not make sense. I have another test of authenticity. Epoxy, how do you feel about oiled up Mexican wrestlers? Take care now: there's a right and a very wrong answer to that...

And Epoxy, if you are legit, don't worry, we're not as bonkers and unfriendly as it might so far seem.

I wonder which way this thread will go...?

Cheers - C

Ok. Let me begin by saying that it has been a while since I was on this forum and, when I tried to login with (what I use on other forum sites - Epoxy) as my username and password, I couldn't get in. So, I re-registered with 'Epoxy' and thought everything would be fine. Since reading your comments, I have trawled through the threads and can now confirm that the original handle I used was TMart75 (my name is Tony). Perhaps, in my haste, I should have done the trawling first and then logged in, but the deluxe I'm after could go at any minute so I made a judgement call. I'll hold my hands up to that.

From memory, I can recall someone making life difficult for Xhefri with regards to the firestorm finish. At the time I remember posting something in his defense. In the past, he has been very helpful in offering me advice and I know that the fender forums have benefited greatly from his advice and build threads. So, unlike many of the watchers in the background, I stood up for the guy - check it out (if the thread is still accessible).

To be honest, because of the troll who kept suggesting that many of the firestorm finished guitars were simply Mexican copies, I just got fed up with the forum and decided to stay away. I had hoped that, by now, things would have calmed down. Obviously not.

Since then, I managed to obtain a Strat Ultra in 'the finish which must not be mentioned', but its just not doing it for me. I'm probably chasing the dragon, but I think that's what most people who are into guitars do.

So, to those of you who have offered some constructive advice on my choice, I wish to thank you. I suppose the GAS is just building, but I thought I'd see what others thought.

Finally, Ceri, in answer to your question, I like oiled up mexican wrestlers so long as they look like Jennifer Lopez and not the dudes in the hats who popped up before!

Excellent. That means you know exactly who it was that I was concerned about. Hopefully it also means you understand and appreciate why we sometimes take a pretty hard line with newbies who ask questions about, as you so beautifully coined it, "the finish which must not be mentioned." Sorry for the abruptness but we can't take any chances around here. That creep gets craftier and craftier every time he sneaks back in.

Since it appears you are not that guy let me be the first to say, "Welcome back!"

Thanks guys. :!: Had a real good laugh   As for the post, good to have you back on board. Blertles has a valid point of view. However, IMHO, keep what works for you, unless you really love it for its own intrinsic sake, like my Gilmour. I've owned and swapped out 2 PRS's in my past, one for the Gilmour. The other for a CS Strat built to my specs on a Clapton platform. PRS's are great guitars, but their necks are not for my fretting hand.

Just my $0.02 on the subject. The '10 Am Dlx sounds like a nice guitar, but IMHO you would be moving down in both sound and status.

I was thinking about selling one of two Fender guitars, a '93 Strat Plus with Ultra loaded pickguard (Red Dually, Gold, Blue Lace Sensors) or an '03 Amer Deluxe Strat, an early Ver 2, which has SCN Pups and S-1 switching. So I spent some time comparing them.

Both are excellent guitars with Locking Staggered Tuners, Two Point Trem and semi-jumbo frets on Maple Fretboards. The Am Dlx has slightly better playability, I like the soft V neck and the S-1, even that particular set of SCN pickups is pretty good, better than a new set I had bought 2 years ago.

But that Lace Sensor configuration is a unique Pup set, wide expressive range and selectable power, unlike anything else I've ever played.

I wouldn't give up that Ultra in the "unmentionable" finish unless you were sure you had to. Besides, it's pretty rare and collectible too, unlike the Am Dlx.

And somehow, over the last couple of months I've sold 4 unused pedals, a Looper and 2 unused Acoustics (that made some room) but I haven't sold either Fender guitar! :D

If/when I have/want to sell one, it would be the Am Dlx before the Ultra.

    Orville...around here, under the circumstances, might as well be asking the passengers rescued off the Titanic if they'd like to see a photograph of the iceberg that sank their ship.
