Searching for the mix of pickups to install on my Strat. It is an alder body and I am looking for a good mix of pickups to get the sound of Eric Clapton (Slowhand stye) to blues and Texas Blues ala SRV. I love all sounds, but have only one electric to play. I have searched and searched and all (Fender, Seymour Duncan, DiMarzio, ToneRider) pickups sound good where they specialize. So I guess what I am looking for is a mix of pickups that can go from a clean articulated sound to that of a Texas Blues. The trebles can be rounded off, but I don't care for a muddy bass. I like the variety of tone from a passive boost/N3 setup. Also Dimarzo 61/67/67; Fender Fat 50's...and a variety of others including a triple shot set-up from Seymour Duncan. As you can tell (and sure you know) there are so many options...is it possible to make an all around pickup set up go from clean vintage to blues to Texas blues and have them mix well on one guitar. I guess the good thing here is that I am not so much into heavy metal. My question is what is my dream team of pickups to get the sounds of my favorites in order Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, the three KINGS and SRV and last but certainly not least Roy Buchanan. My preference is to stay with a passive system, but active is also doable. In doing so, I have come across a product offered by Villex. It is a passive boost. I like the idea, but compared to the wide range offered by a TBX control circuit---it comes up a little short. In short I am looking for the the set up which gets me from sweet clean to Texas Blues. Thank you for reading my rambling....I appreciate your help. PS I am playing thru a Fender Blues Junior Tweed. No pedals yet, but recommendations are also welcome here. Thanks sooooo very much!!! Also note----when deciding on my amp purchase......I was here and you guys were a great. I am sooo very happy with my first amp. It is very good. I would like a little bit more of a snappy bass but that problem might be in the guitar itself which has a generic set of ceramic pickups. Thanks again

Can you get an SRV tone out of that amp?

Changing pickups isn't the answer IMO.

you have a good amp for texas blues but all those players really span the sound spectrum. e.c. ....well you can get his sound by purchacing all his signature model stuff, the three kings all mostly played guitars equiped with humbuckers (lp's, 335,flying v) they get good clean but texas blues....eh. buddy, the more treble from the pups the better and play through a bassman amp. roy's sound you may want a tele. my opinion, just get some good ballanced single coils and put a .033uf cap in the guitar(because you can turn the tones to 1 and it won't go to mud but you still get a nice bass sound and youget a good bit of treble whentheir on 10) and don't wire the bridge pup to a tone control and learn to use the tones and volume on your guitar(it's called dynamics). "sounds-a-plenty" in a strat. use a o.d. pedal or booster into the amp. my 2 cents worth.oh yeh, 57/62,custom shop '69s, vintage noiseless and texas special pups are all good starting points.

All those pickups mentioned by shinkicker are quality units and span the range from low to moderately high.

The ceramic pickups are middle of the range. They can work just fine! You might want to lower them (away from the strings) and see how they sound. The last ones I tried impressed me (after I helped set up a friend's MIM), but that was through a sweet old Marshall.
