Hello

Just after a little help.

I have got a Squire Strat. It has Squire Strat and Fender printed on the head but there is no serial number.

It has fender printed on the machine heads and the tremolo bridge. It has a skunk stripe on the back of the neck and the pickups and selector switch are an off white colour.

Not sure if anyone can help but i would like to know where and when it was made. I have been told if i remove the neck it might be writen there. Not sure how true this is.

If anyone can piont me in the right direction i would really apreciate it.

Thanks
Sticks

You'd probably find a slight 'scaring' on the back of the headstock where some fool has sanded off the 'made in japan' or 'crafted in china' for ultimately silly reasons.... then having made a bit of a mess of it, continued over the serial No.

Im pretty sure that the serial No. is only on the reverse of the head stock.. I know that you would find a model No. which would refer to the 'model of the guitar' inside the pickup cavity and also in the neck pocket somewhere...

maybe Im wrong...
maybe a few pictures would help figure out exactly what it is... then we'll go from there...

Best
P.

Welcome aboard, Sticks.

It should say Squier, not Squire, or it's a fake.

Hello Sticks83, welcome to the Forum.

I'm not a big expert on Squiers but I happen to have a couple of mid-late '90s Squier necks kicking around the workshop. Neither of them have any sort of a serial number on them: unless it's changed, serial numbers are for Fenders, not Squiers.

However, the date of manufacture can be found rubber-stamped onto the heel of the neck, and usually in the body's neck pocket too. Something like this (not my photo) :

That's how you date the guitar. And you'd generally expect the neck and body to be made within two or three months of one another, or it might suggest the guitar has been user-assembled, rather than factory stock. That's not a hard-and-fast rule, but a reasonably reliable indication.

Cheers - C

I don't have extensive knowledge....of much really, but I have owned two Squiers, a Strat and a Tele, now long gone.

The Strat had a clear label that had been peeled and replaced, it was of Chinese Mfg., not sure of the year.

The Tele had a waterslide decal, it was from Indonesia and made in 2007.

I think those facts are correct. :o

Take a look at the pics.

Your Serial # may have been peeled and discarded.

Ceri's right, the born on date should be on the heel of the neck. Taking it apart and putting it back together is part of the Fender experience! :D

Ah-ha, well there ya go, then. Serial numbers on Squiers have come along since my much out of date knowledge. For that matter, I've never seen a Squier branded tuner before, either.

Squier have come on a long way over the last decade, that's for sure!

Thanks for the pics, Dan. :)

Still, Sticks83, the heel is where you need to be looking for a date. Let us know what you find...

Cheers - C

Huh, it looks like it is easy to lose a Squier serial number.

Squiers are all over the map when it comes to serial numbers..
I've only seen a few with a sticker that peels off though..

I've got this 1996 Bullet series Strat and it has a neck plate stamped
with the serial number and 'Made in China'. It's actually a nicely made guitar
with a full thickness Alder body and a really nice neck..

I also have a couple Classic Vibe Strats.. this one is a very early CV50's with a
great flamed neck.. Feb of '08 stamped on the neck heel.. The serial number is
printed on the headstock, then sealed under the gloss finish.
