Just found this guitar for sale on a local classified ad, not a big fan of relic jobs, and this one reminds me exactly why.

Ugh. It has got a kind of Mad Max vibe to it. Like it's been through a war.

Looks like it was reliced with a blow torch. I'll pass...

Yeh it sucks when you can see it has been sanded, it doesnt have that "years of rubbing fine" through the paint look.

Relicing - or "ruining" as it should be called - is the most idiotic trend in guitar finishing ever.

It's pretending to be something you're not.

It's pretending your Squier Affinity is a '54 Stratocaster.

It's pretending that your "road worn" guitar has been out of your bedroom.

It's pretending that you've played a gig.

My guitars are road worn from being taken on the road, not from some snot-nosed idiot with a blow torch and a pack of sandpaper making them look like offcuts.

Did you read the ad? “Custom shop assembled”, “Fender licensed neck”, “fender licensed body”, and no serial number on the neck or the neck plate. I smell a fake on top of the most horrific “relicing” job I have ever seen. I would understand a relic job if you were a pro wanted an identical copy of you long owned and cherished axe to take on the road, but short of that I want a new guitar to look new.

I like the patina on the hardware, but that's it... the rest looks like it got pulled out of a fire... Sorry, not a fan of Hendrix style burnt guitars...

Other than the circular warn spots, it looks pretty authentic.

That is so wrong on so many levels...probably ought to be a law against that!

An extension of the fad is where someone takes a nicely naturally worn guitar and then takes a hatchet to it...
